The scary thing is that I think that probably means video games are underpriced, been $60 for a new copy for decades now. But it's definitely a new market
@waruv My thinking is that video games will continue to be sold around the same price point, especially now that you don't actually need to make a physical copy of anything. You can simply buy the download--thus no packaging, no shipping, and no physical production costs.
Whereas, physical anything is getting tough to source materials (vinyl is plastic; plastic is an oil derivative), find functioning presses and knowledgeable people that can work said presses, and shipping is now a real problem too. Thus we are seeing a rise in physical copies of things that we will probably not see for digital only items.
@nolalady True, though at least on console gaming the difference between physical and digital pricing is relatively small or none as opposed to music which is a steeper premium,. Market differentials are interesting.
I also have to consider with touring just starting back up, physical music/merch sales may be the best revenue generator for many bands, and this is the value proposition people want over CDs or T-Shirts, likely try to make ends meet until touring revenue is back.
