I saw a headline a year or two ago that the rise in SUVs has basically cancelled out the increase in electric vehicle usage and better fuel economy over all. This is not to mention how much more likely they are to kill pedestrians or other drivers.

Yeah, I have a truck and it's a moral dilemma. I mainly use it for driving non-paved roads outside of town and pulling my travel-trailer in the summer, but it still uses a lot of gas. I try and convince myself that my wife having a hybrid for in-town driving, and me riding my bike to work in the summer, and us having solar panels and an ETS furnace helps offset that, but it still weighs on me.

I get ya @TCell but the issue largely isn’t with rural dwellers using off road/semi off road vehicles for what they’re intended for. It’s with the explosion in their use as urban family cars where they’re a dangerous, over large and polluting menace.
