I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Last years Fontaines D.C. album along with Shame and Protomartyr are all very good but it's not reinventing the wheel. The last post-punk album I heard that I thought was groundbreaking was that Black Country, New Road album, but I didn't care for it. I think Preoccupations most recent album from 2019? was quite different and interesting. Stretched the genre in new ways.
Iceage, Protomartyr, Shame, Parquet Courts, and Girl Band are all pretty great IMO, and I love the New Country, Black Road album and looking forward to the Upcoming Squid album. I enjoy it as there isn’t a lot of angular and frenetic guitar bands right now.
