I have heard of these things before, but like what does the "unclaimed money" come from? Property tax assessment errors?

My little sister was doing that and found my name. Had like $113 sitting out there.

I took this from the state where I lived. Customer refunds never claimed, Credit balance for overpayment , Employee payroll check that was not cashed, Securities (stocks, mutual funds, bonds), Dividend check that was not cashed, Utility security deposits, Unredeemed money orders of gift certificates. Mine looks to be something from an old 401 K.
