This is for a relatively affordable record ($20-$30), I should add.

I don't think any offer is offensive, a seller can just reject it or accept it. Though as a seller, I am annoyed and pretty quickly reject an offer when it is less than half the asking price, especially on a sealed record. If 2/3 makers sense based off of the sales history, condition, etc. than it's a fair offer IMO.

I usually aim for 20% off and try not to lowball. IIRC, you can only make one offer on an item so if you really want it, I wouldn't lowball TOO much.

I generally will not accept offers beyond 10-15% off.

You’re right, it’s only one chance. I can live with it being turned down, though. I offered $16 on a $22. We’ll see what happens...

I think between 10-20% is usually what's acceptable. I look at Discogs median too, so if it is sky high, but has a make me an offer, I may go below the 20%

I once put an offer in for a record on discogs and the mfer raised the price by 10 euros.

It's all contextual. I don't think 16 on a 22 record is absurd. I probably wouldn't take a -28% offer but I wouldn't be offended by it personally.
