I know a lot of people are happy, but I feel really bad for Trump's supporters. Yes, they backed a bad man, and made their support for him part of their identity. The reasons aren't valid, but the pain and fear they feel is real, and for that I feel sad for them.
More people voted against Trump than for Biden. I was a Bernie Sanders supporter and still hope as the country continues to become more diverse will swing further left. Biden is not the answer. But holding the line isn’t the same as moving backwards.
You can fight for them to have better lives and believe they deserve the human rights that they are trying to deny others, without also feeling bad for them. I want them to have better lives (because corporations have fucked them sky high) but I also don't forgive what they have done.
I feel no pity for Trump supporters. They either supported his racist, anti-democratic views or just hated democratic policies and this illusion of “socialism” so much that they excused the harm he was doing to this country. Both are inexcusable. I consider myself a fiscally conservative democrat (despite being part of the district who elected AOC) and agree with republicans at times but this Trump led GOP had to go.
I made the assumption there would be Trump supporters in here and wondered how they felt but I dont actually recall ever seeing any in here it is a time to celebrate Trump being gone but I personally wouldn't celebrate the man who got in at the same time. One poison for another I feel, just hopefully less so
I understand hoping for a better candidate than Biden but Trump has caused the biggest divide Ive seen in my lifetime. He is a selfish and dangerous man. Biden may not get as much done as progressives hope (especially with a Republican senate) but he won’t move us backwards.
