First Class is supposed to be quicker but you can only ship up to 16 ounces with First Class at least domestically. I find my first class packages get there usually in 2-5 days mostly.

Yeah, just to add on. When we were in full on quarantine (the first time?), I had media mail that was "in transit" for days. One record, from outside Nashville, took 27 days to make it to Boston. But Priority mail was right on schedule (+/- a day). I think Priority mail gets... priority and Media mail sits in a bin somewhere?

I've heard a lot of horror stories like that with Media Mail. I'm lucky that it hasn't happened to me. I just won an eBay auction yesterday and the $9 shipping is hard to stomach. I asked if they would invoice for MM, but haven't heard back yet.

Putting aside the priority (MM is low), Media mail can’t be insured and damaged items can’t be claimed/compensated from USPS, for starters. Media mail has a pile of restrictions too, and not all shipping software plays nice with the MM classification or even has it available as an option.

Update: they happily accommodated me and only invoiced me for $3.33 shipping. Hopefully they are also great at shipping to avoiding seam splits. 🤞

@Corycm huh, I was able to insure a MM package a few weeks back via PayPal.

@kvetcha might be third-party insured. It’s not eligible under usps code for their standard insurance. It’s the no-frillest of no-frills. Also there’s the thing about USPS being able to open any MM package they want, for “inspection” but you don’t see that happen a lot.
