@MikeH he'd been in it since very early this year, but really started to pick up steam when he was on the frontlines at protests in downtown louisville. Looking forward to what he does next!
Gotcha--I only had heard about him in the weeks up until the election (I'm not from KY) while I feel like I have heard about McGrath since last year. I'm also looking forward to seeing what he does next!
@MikeH I think the Dems didn't throw their $ behind him until late in the game because they were happy to play the centrist role and put forward McGrath, but when Booker picked up steam they didn't really have a choice. Schumer needs to go too imo.
I saw the news of Booker's defeat this morning. A big shame, but McGrath outspent him 40:1 with establishment money. That's a hard thing to overcome in politics, sadly.
@jaycee I think a lot of the Dem leadership needs to go to be honest... I don't even hate Schumer but we need to get some new blood in there. The Dems still think that they can play nice and get things done.
Absolutely @MikeH . I get the desire to have a conservative centrist approach particularly in a place like KY where traditionally you haven't had much of a chance but times have changed and the strategy is a failed one - Booker is evidence - It's trading energizing a progressive base for the false security of trying to pick off a few red/purple votes
@MikeH Yeah this was entirely national democrats giving Kentucky the boot yet again. Threw their money at the weakest possible candidate and bolstered the delusion that center-right candidates are the only ones that can win. They don't care about KY, and are fine with keeping McConnell in office as long as they can use him to raise money and as a scapegoat.
I think you're both right about Dems thinking they need to run a center-right candidate in the South. Tides are slowly shifting and hopefully the Dems start to realize that. It will be interesting to see what happens in Nov and I think either way, it will be hard to unseat the turtle especially with the crazy voter suppression going on. But I would rather take my chances with someone inspiring like Booker.
