I've always been too nervous that the first person I'd sell to would complain about the packaging or shipping or whatever and ruin my rating. That and I don't have a clue what to put for shipping. Seems easier just to sell locally or exchange at Sonic.

I always have something listed there. I prefer it a million times to ebay.

I'm no Blake from Glengarry Glen Ross, but I've sold some of my VMP bounty from a year ago on Discogs without any problems. Fwiw, I have mine set to automatically add shipping ($15USD for N. America), after a couple people backed out after I told them the shipping cost from Canada. It might scare some off, but I figure it's better than me having to email back and forth with folks.

And do you have it set to 15 per single disc or double disc or...?

Idk about single disc vs. double disc, I just have it set under my shipping methods at 1 to 2 items = $15; 3+ = $20.
The Muddy Waters album was a double and I'm pretty sure $15USD covered shipping via Xpresspost or to the US. You may want to double check the pricing at Canada Post though.

Pretty easy when I have done it. Just make sure you have boxes, your record grading is correct, and you are relatively prompt to respond!

I’ve sold a bunch on Discogs but have also recently had luck on Facebook marketplace. Benefit there is not having to ship things out plus no Discogs fees. Negative is you have to deal with people face to face.

Yeah being in Canada means I'm likely gunna have to lower prices to deal with shipping to US folks. I don't do Facebook so that avenue is closed. But thanks for the suggestion!

"nightmare buyers" like, hmmm... those crazies who order 5 copies of the same record to choose their most favorite?

THAT WAS FROM AMAZON @bfly

And I think it was four, and the first two were screwed up.

@Mather this might be an obvious one but take plenty of photos of the record before you pack it up, then again showing the address and postage label. Plus save your receipt. I regularly sell records and have the receipts all saved with the names of the record written at the top. The photos and receipts have saved me many times.

Probably a good idea.

I would over conservatively grade and be transparent about your grading. I have sold on discogs and reddit and the only issue I had was when someone didn’t update their mailing address on PayPal so their copy of Captain Murphy - duality was sent to the wrong address. Luckily the buyer was able to retrieve it.

So I’d double check people’s addresses before mailing. Otherwise if you pack well and are up front about any issues, no matter how small, there’s not much they can complain about. I also always offer to open sealed records and pack the LP behind the sleeve to avoid seam splits in shipping
