Pre-Order Thread

"For her forthcoming album, Billie EIlish will be releasing a limit of 8 variants of vinyl through her website as well as all major retailers including Target, Amazon, and Walmart; each on the same day, containing the same track-listing across the board and all produced with the most sustainable practices available. The standard black variant is made from 100% recycled black vinyl. The remaining 7 colored vinyl will be made from ECO-MIX or BioVinyl."

So only 8 variants.

Reminds me a bit of when Lorde went on about sustainability and then put out a deluxe version with a massive glossy poster and eight billion add ins and a bonus disk and then a bonus EP after that. I believe her intent entirely but honestly, vinyl in itself isn't very sustainable compared to other methods outside of the most fervent spinners. I feel like Jack Johnson is one of the small handful who does records and actively works towards sustainability on these fronts with single variant / no plastic wrap / limited print run approaches and even that's imperfect.

How do people feel about new Billie Eilish?
No singles, no song titles. Said she wants to put it all out at once.

We're definitely seeing this more with artists who can afford to do it. Beyonce has did two singles and titles as one drop, Taylor just has song titles. I suspect artists and their teams are valuing the "big drop" promo bombs more than the little bumps from singles. I think it makes sense, though to be honest, it does ensure I don't pre-order the album. I need something to know the artist didn't just decide to change their entire career's musical direction prior to dropping $30 on an album.
