Movies

I have my IMAX tickets for The Boy And The Heron this Friday. I don't think I've anticipated a movie this highly in a while. Unfortunately, I think the local IMAX theater is showing the dub, but it's unclear. So I guess we'll see.

we're doing the alamo showing on sunday. trying to avoid reviews and blurbs on it, but what i have unavoidably seen/heard in headlines and things seems promising.

we're also going to an alamo screening of batman returns next week, and then the iron claw special screening. excited about both.

I have seen the teaser but nothing else. Trying to go in as fresh as possible.

I’m also looking forward to Poor Things, but no idea when that’ll be here. Looks like they already have some screenings up for The Iron Claw in a couple of weeks though.

Can I just put on record how stupid region protection is on Blu Rays. Saw a film I wanted to watch the library (Jodorowsky’s Dune), rented it, but as it’s a region A disc I can’t play it on my players. I’m actually having to pirate it to watch it. So frustrating.
That drives me nuts too. But on the plus side that's a great documentary. I went and saw it in theaters.

It's due to copyright holders. Disney could own the rights for a film in the US but Universal have the rights in the EU for example. It's been like that from VHS to blu-ray, although it's kinda funny that all 4K discs are region free. That does create a bit of an issue when the accompanying blu-ray disc is region locked.
The only issue i have with region coding is that i can't trade in region A titles at one of the buy/sell/trade stores lol

Yeah, it's so frustrating. I can't remember if Australia was a different region from the UK in the DVD days, which was even more frustrating. At least we are in the same region for Blu Rays. I have an Australian PS5 and UK PS4 & 3, so at least I have a variety of players!

Yeah, I have a PC Blu-Ray drive I use to rip Region B discs to Plex. Region locks suck.

One nice thing about UHD is that it’s region-free.

They were. Looks like there were up to 8 Region codes back then which i guess is why it was so easy to mod a DVD player to be Region free. Other wise it would have been a dumpster fire trying to import a title haha

Almost through this one and really enjoying the vibe of it. Plus the dude's vinyl collection is fantastic. He's clearly one of us.
