This is great. Thanks for sharing. The Deslondes (and JR Miller) don't make it up here too often, and I'm out of town next week. So bummed. A while back, I was in New Orleans, and after hitting a jazz show we wandered into a whiskey bar. I wasn't paying too much attention to the guy setting up...

My brother just texted me that there're rumors of some new Sturgill music tomorrow, and his website has been updated to a protected coming soon site. Anyone heard anything? https://www.sturgillsimpson.com/ EDIT: Not new Sturgill. Bummer. Sorry for the false alarm.

Book 3 - Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin I suspect I'm way late to the party on this one, as I usually am. But what a fun read! It's a coming of age love story, of sorts, through the eyes of three friends who decide to make video games together. It's dorky, and sweet, and...

Book 2 - In The Distance by Hernan Diaz I went into this one blind (how I prefer it). I really really enjoyed Trust last year, and that was my only preconceived notion, and as it turned out the two books have almost nothing in common. I respect an author who can shape shift and take a...

Book 1 - Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver I really enjoyed reading this, but it's a tough read. The subject matter: addiction, poverty, and broken families in Appalachia is really heavy and depressing, and Kingsolver goes deep. It starts with the protagonist's birth to a single mother...

It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

I was talking to my brother about this the other day, and am too lazy to do my own research. Do any of you know: when was the last time the three promoted teams all immediately went down? I went back a while, and it was often 2/3, but 3/3 seems very rare.

It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

I just turned on this South Korea v. Saudi Arabia affair. I'm told the first 80 was not great watching, but the last 15' were pretty exciting. South Korea leveled it at 90+9"... although seeing Klinsmann running around the touchline like a fool gave me some bad USMNT ptsd.

Doug Paisley put out an album, Sad Old World, on Friday. It's mostly covers of older country songs: Lefty, George Jones, Blaze, Merle, etc.

I'm more of a leach than anything on these threads, but I appreciate all of your write ups and suggestions. It's led me to some really great reads. First up for me this year, a christmas gift from my brother: Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. Might as well start the year with something dark.

    2023 Reading Challenge

Really late drop in, here. I was useless on this thread, and only made it through 16 books last year. Some of these tripped me up (Starting with The Passenger, actually. RIP Cormac). And then I went through some periods where I just couldn't pick up a book. Anyway, this was it: The Passenger -...
