HDMI is video and audio. But if the receiver doesn't do video or you have no other video sources then yes, just go optical to RCA.

The tv might have separate RCA audio outs too, some do. Then you wouldn't need a converter box. But if it doesn't then I'd go HDMI to component out. That'll cut down one extra cable.

For sure, but does your tv have HDMI out? Because another option would be getting an HDMI to component converter box. Less cables and potentially less expensive.
