Definitive Audiophile pressings

Been checking out a few of these tunes. They sound great, and I can just imagine how that might translate to a top-notch pressing. Thanks for the heads-up! I'd never heard of this artist before.
There is an earlier release of hers also released by RoG on an RSD that is terrific. I had a slight issue with the first I'd bought, but the sound was good enough that I found another. I think you can find them on sale in "post-RSD" bins. First record has a stronger soul, R&B. Great record.

Sonny Rollins - Way Out West (Contemporary Records, 1958 First UK Mono Pressing) &
(Contemporary Records, 2018 Craft Deluxe Edition Box Set)

Decided to run a little A/B comparison on the original UK Mono pressing of Sonny Rollins' "Way Out West" alongside the Craft box set from 2018. There was some back and forth at the time about whether the box was AAA or digital which in my opinion kind of doesn't matter when you are at the point where you don't know from listening. Anything after that is surely semantics. Anyway, it has been a while since I listened to the box set and as I remembered, it holds up incredibly well, nice and punchy, with plenty of clarity between instruments. No need for the new upcoming set on my end.

Not to burst any bubbles here (any record that sounds good is ok and competing for a 'holy grail' pressing is IMO a fool's errand) - but - if one is going Japanese for Dark Side, the Toshiba Pro-Use is the gold standard and still holds up today. And it is the quietest pressing of any.

$300+ however. Sooooo, that a no. For one third of that cost I'm willing to give this one a try. But in the future, who knows...
I hear you. For some things, though, money isn't a factor.

When I see people forking out $100 to Vape45 for a 45 pressing of a 50's two-track recording or $150 for some crazy one-step fad, it does make me think that even at $200-300 the ultimate of one of the greatest records of all time might not be so bad. It's worth 4 one-steps IMO.

Then again, who am I to say - I probably paid $50 for mine, long ago.

Can’t find the reggae thread, but the recent Essential Artists series Trojan Records launched is off to a fantastic start. Both albums by the Skatalites and the Maytals are absolutely fantastic. Skatalites collection covers mainly the Treasure Isle stuff they did for Duke Reid as well as some other collabs and producers and the Maytals collection is from their period recording for Leslie Kong on Beverly’s. Perfect pressings and the mastering is great. Possibly the best collections of this material for each artist. Highly recommended if you’re into that!

Man this thing looks untouched, the 2 posters, booklet, postcard look like they've never even been handled. Very curious to get this on the table. 1974, nuts.
Your reflection in the outer sleeve of DSOTM feels like a Rorschach test. I see the painting The Scream.

This one?

Haven't played it in a while. Good time to spin it.
My name is Jason and I have 4 copies of DSOTM.
Haven't bought a copy this year so I'm on a good road to recovery 😄

That it is.

Before you start your recovery, which I wish you well with (there will inevitably be relapses), you may want to check out the equally excellent Pro-Use Abbey Road.

I stopped with a '73 US Wally pressing.

I think it was the most crankable rock sounding pressing and least expensive ( go figure)

I do agree the JP Pro is incredibly quiet.
