Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Well, got my records of the month today. I ended up swapping for McGriff's Soul Sugar and Nick Cave's Nocturama (I had to dig when Ross' King Maker delayed). I finally got the Funkadelic- vinyl looks nice, but one of the sleeve corners was dented in, thus giving me a trifecta of damaged items the past 3 months. Stella and Lukas Nelson escaped unscathed. I am in Alabama so those of you in Texas may see something next week if they are working their way west from NC. They did use a different packing box and bubble wrap this time, which seemed to help.

O god please don't let that happen haha how many weeks away is it? And yeah, if Taylor couldn't knock it off with two attempts, what will?!
2 more weeks to tie the record, 3 weeks to break it. It’s definitely getting a 15th week at the top, but with that Billie Eilish & JB “bad guy” remix dropping today, it’s got some competition.

Can I "Add this Track" for RHH and get Tical as a $23 add-on? Or will it just mean I'm adding next month's RHH? Anyone know? I'd be down for Tical at 23, but not in the 30s
Can’t get it at all. Tical was sold out before announcement.
I missed VMP staying on brand and pulling low rent bullshit. My information was outdated. My bad, but not as bad as theirs. Damn.

Got my box today: Lightmen, Crumb, and Stella. Crumb and Lightmen have slight dents in the top corners but I'm not one to fuss over minor issues like that.

Still listening to them now, and I'm so glad I was able to grab Stella when she returned to the store. I literally bought the last copy. She makes such fun, light-hearted music with incredibly pissed off lyrics lol

I believe someone who still had swaps open due to Weyes Blood saw Tical become available as a swaption. So... probably. Maybe buy Classics or Essentials and see if you can swap it to Tical. And if not, just shoot CS an email, they should set you straight.

Stella Donnelly's album has been in my rotation for a few months now. I get the impression that she views men as stubborn, selfish assholes. Really unique accent to her voice...kind of like Gwen Stefani's vibrato with an Australian inflection.

I had like 7 records in my package, but I also got a lot of bubble wrap as well, which was a very welcome change. Records came undamaged and reasonably flat. A very very slight warp in my Mort Garson, but it's livable. Everything else was basically flawless.

I think the scores are an average from a group of voters, not just the writer.

I can't confirm this necessarily, but having someone/a group of people deciding on a rating is definitely a thing that goes on.

Way way back in late 2005/early 2006, I wrote stuff for Stylus for about 6 months. (Anyone remember Stylus?) The grades (A+ through F) were given by the editors, not the writers. We did have conversations about it, but ultimately it laid outside of my hands as the writer.

Who else still gets goosebumps/super happy everytime they go on the VMP site and see the Mariah Carey “Daydream” exclusive? 😂

I can’t go over how amazing it will be that I’ll be getting a super good-looking and sounding (I hope) Mariah Carey VMP exclusive!!!

Not sure which VMP exclusive I prefer out of Mariah Carey’s Daydream or Freddie Gibbs & Madlib’s Piñata!

I also love the Lil’ Kim Hardcore exclusive so much and the CrazySexyCool exclusive too. Only thing is that I have both of them on vinyl already and the pressing for CrazySexyCool does sound very good! Lil’ Kim’s Hardcore sounds OK, so I’m hoping this VMP exclusive sounds better!

But OMG, I really hope VMP press more Mariah Carey 90’s albums! Particularly Mariah’s debut, Emotions and Butterfly! 🤞

I’m going to eventually cave in and buy the Mariah and it’s going to be all your fault

I say go for it and buy it. The song “Underneath The Stars” alone is worth the purchase. Underneath The Stars is honestly one of the most timeless songs of the 90’s. The song is blissful in a sensual way and dreamy in a romantic sense. This song is ultimately psychedelic with the dissolving, trippy qualities it has. The Rhodes piano and heavy bass give it that nice vintage vibe and Mariah’s vocals sound sweet in a youthful way yet mature in a vintage way. It’s such a timeless masterpiece and the song itself has a vinyl, 70’s sound. Underneath The Stars has so much texture and nostalgic to it, it’s unbelievable. It’s creamy, it’s bittersweet, it’s lavish, it’s retro, it’s innocent, it’s heartfelt. It really is a classic, joyful tune.

Just listen to Underneath The Stars and you’ll understand that this album is well worth the purchase just for the track alone! It really is like a 90’s Minnie Riperton song!

So I went and saw Joel Ross and his band at the PizzaExpress Jazz Club in Soho, London last night. Firstly, this might be one of my new favourite venues for jazz music, it has a proper Jazz club vibe, with low black ceilings, warm but low lighting, and a really intimate vibe. Love it.

The music was utterly brilliant and I really want as many people to know about this group as possible (sorry if you see this post on a few threads). They played for about 2 hours total with a 30min break in-between. And they realllly played , non-stop with no break between songs. They all played their asses off and I just want to give a special mention to the drummer Jeremy Dutton, sweet lord that guy can play!

Heres a few pics from last night, and I also took a leaf out of @Yer Ol' Uncle D's book and recorded the audio for about half the show (nothing fancy, just iPhone voice recorder). I listened to the playback this morning and its surprisingly good (we were sat at the very front so was worried about it being overpowering). Check out their new album, Kingmaker (on Blue Note), its killer.

I saw Joel Ross last night and he (and his band) were utterly fantastic. I actually had credit and ordered the VMP exclusive (should of arrived prior to the gig and I was going to get them to sign it, but you know...........vmp), but its also available cheaper in other places as a standard press. I highly recommend it!

My lord I love your enthusiasm. Partly because my friends are always amazed by my own enthusiasm for certain things. Mariah isn't my thing, but speaking of 90s records, if VMP did an exclusive of Catherine Wheel's Adam and Eve I would get goosies every time I opened the page for sure.

I really enjoyed the show! It was just mind-blowing! I loved the venue as well! It was one of the best shows I’ve been to in a long time actually!
