Wasn’t Clarity out in 98?

Off the top of my head, immediate stand outs would be flips’ Soft Bulletin, Fiona Apple’s When the Pawn, Sigur Ros’ Aegitis Byrjun, wilco’s Summerteeth, and d-plan’s The Emergency & I

From an Oztrayan perspective, bluebottle kiss’ Patient, and second records from Not From There and possibly Pnau (although did Sambanova came out in 98 too?)
I see February '99 for Clarity.

I had a real tough time keeping mine at 10. I think it was a sneaky really strong year, even if the mainstream was a bunch of crap.

I think as with all things it depends what you are into tbh. For a, mainly, rock/indie fan on this side of the ocean it kinda fell in a 3 year lull between britpop imploding and the garage rock scene and it lacked the sort of magic one off scene defying albums that 1998 and 2000 had in abundance.

I think for context I was 16 and ended up falling into nu-metal around then too...

Yeah, a Korn album came out that year. I seem to recall not liking Issues as much as I did Follow the Leader, though, so I kept it off my nostalgia-list

It was also the year Limp Bizkit broke big. Lots of meat heads at the festivals that summer. Alt-rock had been coasting for a bit and I don't remember much of what was playing on the radio catching my ears. There were a bunch of great psychedelic pop that was released, mostly associated to Elephant 6, as @wokeupnew pointed out.
