Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I’m ashamed some of y’all fell for the shiny vmp al green...that pure pleasure pressing is sublime. Will be far superior than the vmp fat possum pressing probably :)
I'm skipping out on the VMP one but since Tired of Being Alone is my favorite track on the album and I heard the PP one has tape distortion on it, I'm sticking with a digital high res for now...

The Speaker's Corner reissue of Call Me gets rave reviews as well if anybody missed out on the VMP pressing.
I love Speakers Corner pressings! They are some of the best sounding pressings I own! I recently ordered the Speakers Corner pressing for Donny Hathaway’s Everything Is Everything and cannot wait to spin it! I also ordered the Speakers Corner pressing for Lou Reed’s Transformer, but that title is on backorder! That’s another pressing I’m so excited to spin in the future!

I have Bill Withers’ Just As I Am, Carla Thomas’ The Queen Alone, LaVern Baker Sings Bessie Smith, Albert King’s Born Under A Bad Sign and all four pressings sound wonderful!

I did a big order with a German seller on Discogs and have seven Speakers Corner titles on the way! I’ve got two Earth Wind & Fire albums (Spirit & That’s The Way Of The World), The Isley Brothers’ The Heat Is On, Charles Mingus’ The Clown, Nilsson’s Aerial Ballet, Wilson Picket & Mary Wells! I can’t wait to receive all of them and spin them!

I wanted the Speakers Corner pressing for Patti Smith’s Horses, but the 2015 Sony Music pressing I have sounds great!

Luckily for Discogs though, I ordered the Analog Spark pressing for Laura Nyro and not the Speakers Corner pressing, as Many reviews say the Analog Spark pressing is easily better than the Speakers Corner one!

I just got the Bill Withers Speakers Corner from Plaidroom and that pressing sounds phenomenal. I used to avoid SC records because they were really expensive to import to the US but quite a few great shops like Plaidroom and Comeback vinyl both carry them!

I doubt it will sound ‘far superior’, because this VMP pressing is AAA, remastered by Ryan Smith and plated at QRP! I think it will sound amazing! I guess we’ll have to wait! I have a feeling this pressing will sound great though, and I love the colour variant too! 👍

Yeah, I love spinning that one! The Music On Vinyl pressings for Still Bill and +Justments also sound great, but the Speakers Corner pressing for Just As I Am sounds better than both of them! Just As I Am is such a satisfying and fulfilling listen on vinyl! ♥️

And while we're discussing travel and cuisine, I highly recommend Morocco as well for anyone that hasn't been, great inexpensive food, very warm and welcoming people, and there's a certain level of frenziness and culture shock that somehow adds to the appeal. Marrakesh is like this desert Oasis that's surrounded by white snowy peaks of the Atlas Mountains which gives it this surreal look at times. And while there take a day trip to the Atlas mountains themselves you won't regret it.

Cheers.

Yaaasss! I was able to visit Marrakesh earlier in the year before all the lockdowns happened. It was my first time visiting and I would definitely go again! The food was delicious, the locals were friendly and welcoming, their art and culture were so beautiful and interesting.

BTW, did anyone see the new Netflix "Street Food" season on Latin America? All countries had some killer things, but man, I was drooling throughout the Salvador da Bahia episode. I almost cried when the lady showed that fish stew with palm oil and coconut milk.

I have some mixed feelings about the "Street Food" series. I understand food documentaries can't always capture all the different cultures and cuisines. I appreciate some of the different perspectives they can sometimes bring to a familiar culture or introduce something new. However, to me, it seems like it's the same cluster cultures that are favored to be covered while others are often left out entirely. I would LOVE to see a series that covers the Caribbean foods and cultures. Yes, this is slightly self-serving since I'm Dominican. It would be nice to see a "Street Food: Caribbean Islands" edition. I don't often see educational food shows that talk about us. If I'm mistaken, by all means, share the show(s) and I'll watch them too!

There's a decent article that talks about the good and bad of the show: https://mashable.com/article/street-food-latin-america-controversy-interview-netflix/

Either way, I still enjoy the series as well as David Chang's work with Ugly Delicious and Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. I still watch them all! I love learning about it all, and not so secretly add some of them to my food and travel list!

Calling it educational in the traditional sense is maybe a bit much, but it's certainly more direct: Bourdain's No Reservations (s8e17 - Dominican Republic). I used to live in the DR as a kid, and I live in Miami so I'm not hurting for comida caribense or from SA, but it is nice seeing some of that stuff get a wider audience

I did the same thing, postage was a little less though lol!

For anyone who is interested it’s still £12.40 direct from pure pleasure.

Good pressing from good companies rather than shitty pressings from a shower of shitbags.
I'll second this vote. This is a great sounding version

Thank you for this! I grew up in S FL, and definitely miss the area and my family there.

I started teaching myself more Dominican dishes via Dominican Cooking - Dominican recipes, food and culinary culture since my mom didn't really pass down many recipes to us. Since moving to Vegas years ago it's been mainly about the Mexican food here (understandable), which I do love, but for me and my belly Dominican food is the way to go! Found a few Caribbean restaurants here to get a taste of home whenever I can.

I love Vegas's food world. We have a little bit of everything here. I love Korean and Thai food. I got to visit S. Korea a few years ago, and I want to go back there for sure. Hopefully one day I'll be able to visit Thailand though. :)

I'm with you on this kind of shows having their issues. I'm glad they're highlighting culinary cultures that feel close to mine, but I sense a tad of whitewashing throughout the series. I don't know about the previous season, but on the Latin America one it was annoying to see mostly white local "scholars" validate the food, work and culture of brown and indigenous people. Like the centuries-old tradition of tlayudas in Oaxaca needed the "blessing" of white people to be absolutely delicious and amazing.

Anyway, rant over. I'm with you:these kinds of shows have their fair share of issues, but I'm still a sucker for food, and love getting to know about recipes from all over the world.

So yeah, I've filed Paypal disputes with VMP... again. If they go like the previous one, VMP won't answer any of it.
Ouch, are you missing records or have damaged ones?

After opening up each record from my haul the other day, 2 are warped. The Oliver Nelson has a massive dish warp and the Fiona Apple has a slight warp but bend to the corner of the jacket. Clearly they bent it before putting it in the box as the others are fine and theres no damage to the box. So much for the 'increase in quality'. I've sent off an email about it but looks like I might be waiting a while....

Missing records, It's been 14 days since my email to CS to get some information.

Last December 4 separates disputes went unanswered by VMP following my emails unanswered for weeks. I finally did receive some of the records I opened the dispute for, but after the dispute was closed by Paypal.

So my Fiona Apple turned up today, no more VMP for me, only dipped for this because let me have free member shipping and pricing despite not being a member 😂). Sad not to be able to resub for spiritualized given that it’s a fav (would have taken a three month on old prices for it) but delighted to not be giving these fools more money.

Maybe an international member could help ya get Spiritualized? I’d offer to help as this is my last month but with new swap prices I don’t think the price would be very cheap for ya to have me swap and send it from the US. It’s my last month as I had signed up for a 3 month deal and wanted spiritualized.

Yeah I might put a shout out on the UK and European threads. Even at the new swap of $33 plus postage from UK/Europe, or even better from an Irish member, I’d be happy. $49.66, or $52 for one month sub, is just too steep! Thanks, I really appreciate the offer but the last LP I had posted by a forumer from the US was $24.50, and with USPS being evicerated to try to rig an election, you’re right, it’s probably not worth it!

I can sort you out but I'll have to post from the UK as I'm not in Dublin again till December at the earliest as things stand
