Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

HA HA I remember getting 13 cds for a penny maybe 5 times under 5 different names, then having more sent to the abandoned house across the street a few times, and staring out the window like Malcom looking for the mail man to bring them so I could go on a mission and grab them. Good times.
Then when my mom stopped yelling at me, she would write Columbia a nasty letter telling them they were trying to collect from a minor. Good times indeed!

How many of you that have received a recent VMP shipment did so without having received a notification of said shipment? I've still heard NOTHING from them, though I did get an auto "you left something in your cart" email which is just straight up inaccurate. The last thing I'd be doing on that website right now is SHOPPING for anything.
Me.

My Aretha just showed up. Still waiting on Fiona.

Mobb Deep has no skips so thats nice.

I saw a few complaints about skipping on reddit on Mobb Deep, and when I see that I usually like to reiterate the following:

Skipping on vinyl should really only occur for 2 reasons. 1st, and most common, is if there is significant damage to the groove - this prevents your stylus from tracking through the damaged groove and will generally bump the needle ahead in the track as it passes over the damage. Something like this is going to be visible to the naked eye. The second type of skip is a "locked-groove". This is generally caused by debris stuck in the groove that prevents the stylus from advancing on the track. What usually happens is the stylus continues to go around on the same groove and what you hear is a repetitive few-seconds clip of the song, endlessly, unless the stylus can somehow break through the lock in the groove. This was the case on some copies of Gorillaz Demon Days (and it is a pressing plant issue). Sometimes this can be rectified with a deep clean, some times a toothpick or needle, or even by letting the stylus continue to play until it breaks through the lock by itself.

All other skips, 99 times out of 100, are due to calibration issues. If your tracking force is improperly set (either too low OR too high) and there is a dynamic passage, the stylus can be thrown out of the groove. This is especially common on lower end tables, like an LP60/Crosley Cruiser/IONs/etc, but can also occur on better tables if VTF and anti-skate are not properly set.

I don't see how damage or debris wouldn't be able to cause both back and forward skips. I've experienced both from damage at least.

That's why I said "generally" when describing the two types of skips. Damage usually doesn't cause a repeater, but I guess it could. Whereas locked-grooves generally only cause repeaters, though I guess your stylus could hit the debris and be thrown forward in the track.

But, the main point is that either damage or defect notwithstanding, most folks who note skipping on brand new records have a calibration issue and the issue is a dynamic passage, rather than some invisible issue with the record

I believe this ad was intended for the likes of you:

I would, though

Just to add to this VMP frustration... If, they ever do ship it would be to the point where I'll be out of town! Can't have the USPS hold them for me if there's no tracking number... They are going to be sitting outside for at least two weeks
Same here. I'm gone beginning Friday for 10 days of family holiday shenanigans. I've already accepted the fact that my wife won't be getting Shura as one of her Christmas gifts.

Haven't heard about or received my Aretha, BB King or Fiona and now I'm wondering if my Torres pre-order from Black Friday is somehow screwing everything up.

This is me. 11 albums ordered - no shipping notices. No response to my emails other than the generic “no records are delayed right now and most people already have their records so please just stop asking” message.

I was able to log in on the USPS website and put a hold on mail delivery while I’m out of town. You can choose to either have them deliver all of the held mail after the hold or to keep it at the post office for you to pick up. I’ve never used this before but it seemed like the best option for this situation since I’m away for 4 weeks.

Interesting, I assumed it was universal. I do live in a populous area so it makes sense that rural areas wouldn't have the updated equipment for scanning in the mail. I'd assume it would work for packages as those are all entered digitally.
It’s not available for me in DC. My address has a “1/2” in it, so maybe that’s too crazy for the system to process. It sounds magical though.

Finally reached out to VMP about my orders.

The generic copy/paste reply basically says it was high amount of orders that caused this backlog? Like unforeseen consumer demand of a Black Friday bump threw your business out of wack for weeks and caused this massive pileup?

I mean, just take ownership, admit mistakes, lay out a concrete plan to resolving all this, and go execute that plan. Oh and be a proactive communicator. People would respect that.

so people have already mentioned signing up for informed delivery- but even without, you should be able to schedule a mail hold for your address and request that you pick them up from post office on return. they will hold everything- all packages and junk mail. if! anything is coming from UPS or FedEx, those are harder to schedule and more limited, but you can do holds with them as well.

another thing if you can't get the above sorted... not sure if you'd feel comfortable with someone from the internet, but if you don't have a pause on delivery scheduled and get notice, I live in SA and could theoretically snag and hold the package for you. I'll be in town except for Dec. 29-Jan. 4.

That Phoenix album sells fairly affordably on Discogs I believe! Probably not so lucky with the Brubeck though. That really sucks.
Well I reupped and got a free record (Phoenix) and Dave is gone forever.
More upset about Dave as I actually wanted whereas Phoenix was a bonus.

So I was done with VMP , then came back in nov to get Dave and my free record. Hung out and got 30% of A Olsen. Then was like, yeah I’ll treat myself to run dmc on green.

But basically I lost opportunity for Dave and a free VMP record. No idea about Olsen.

run dmc will probably show up in Jan.

I have a locked groove skip on Parliament’s Mothership Connection during Unfunky UFO but it is the funkiest locked groove in history. It also perfectly loops where you don’t even realize it’s skipping at first until ten minutes pass  I don’t even get mad when I spin that record.
