Have I mentioned that my wife, the English major, sorts books this way?
Who are all these authors with The as a surname?

That sound like it works well for your situation. For me, I am nearing 2,000 albums and have several dozen that have yet to be sorted into my library due lack of capacity (I need to do a purge ASAP) and sometimes if I am looking through the overflow stack, I have to thumb through those like 2 or 3 times before I find what I am looking for. It’s pretty annoying.I only need the discogs to figure out if i have a particular album if in away from the collection, but if im looking for an album in the collection and im there i can find it
I also subdivide by genre
This is me. The stacks have more than the shelves now. Can't find shit. That sound like it works well for your situation. And that is what I do, under A for Alice.Together, as they were a band before Vincent took over completely
First of all, what does this have to do with filing by color?Who are all these authors with The as a surname?
Genre’s are a slippery slope for me. I do tend to pull all my seasonal albums out of the stacks around the holidays for easy access but once the season is over the get sorted backing into the shelves via Discogs.Youre thinking to much dont sub genre your genre sections. I keep mine simple:
Rock/Metal
Jazz
Classical
Country
R&B/Funk/Soul
Rap/Hip Hop
Pop/Dance/Electronic
Salsa
Christmas
And then all my japanese artists/bands are together subdivided into the Rock/Metal, Pop, and Jazz
I tried genre for a while. Eno was a mess and all over the placeGenre’s are a slippery slope for me. I do tend to pull all my seasonal albums out of the stacks around the holidays for easy access but once the season is over the get sorted backing into the shelves via Discogs.
Pretty much the same. Bowie / Jazz / Everything elseI have Jazz pulled out for various reasons. I have soundtracks pulled out. I have classical pulled out and Christmas stuff in their own storage container. Otherwise it’s all alphabetical by the LOC system.

There is at least one dumbass named “The First Defiler”

Dave Matthews Band is near Bowie with David Alllan Coe in between.I did decide to ignore stage names and names of bands that include the primary artist are in the appropriate place for that artist’s name. So Dave Matthews Band is in the Ms.
I have plenty of shelves. These are all the records I have not shelved due to not having been played (or less than three times):

I love Beatles!I keep them in A because the A feels integral to their name for reasons that bands who start with a The doesn't
