Texas

WELCOME!
SATX is growing in all aspects, let us know if you need any recs!
Right on. Luckily, I'm going there for work so I'm secure in that area and I have two really good friends there (one who is in my career field).

I was gonna go out there having bought a house but given current interests rates (and comparing to my current 2.25% - golden parachute, amirite?), I'm gonna rent a house for the first 6mos-1yr hoping that 2024 rates get better. Plus, it will be easier to look once I'm actually there and get a feel of where I want to set anchor.

I'll be making my move to SA in the next month or so. Before I get there...

What are some of the key record shops?

Tips for RSD? I haven't actually done RSD the last few go arounds (interest in it has largely waned and I'm mostly cynical about it plus anything I've been interested in has been east enough to grab after the rush); but just in case it's good to know the better shops for RSD.

Non-record related...any SA "survival" tips? Any shibboleths or must knows that will help me acclimate, assimilate, and not be (or at least not seem like) an outsider quicker?

Hogwild and Southtown are the ones I’ve been to but a new one called Pink Zeppelin opened up that looks cool.

Whether you believe it or not just say Austin sucks and everything we do is better and you’ll be fine. More often than not it’s true anyway especially breakfast tacos.

Beware of the southside there are packs of feral dogs, the donkey lady and ghost children who push your car off train tracks.

After a bunch of waiting for a bunch of stuff to get worked out and doing a month of work in Florida, my job has finally gotten everything sorted and it looks like I'll finally be pushing to SAT by 20 May.

My realtor should be sending me places to look at to rent tonight and I told her I wanted to check out the neighborhood centralized around Presa street and a couple miles from downtown (I was there in March and went to a bar called McIntyres in that neighborhood and it seemed chill).

Looking forward to making the move (well, the move itself will suck....but ya know what I mean).

Hell Yeah! Puro San Anto!
King William district is a great choice!

Nice man! What’s your work at Kelly? We built one of the office buildings over there a couple years ago. It was a cool project. They also have a new music venue there that’s pretty solid.

In that area, if I’m thinking of the right spot. Most of the old Kelly AFB is called Port San Antonio now. This is the music venue I’m referring to.

Ah yes! I saw that place on my drive up to the gate when I was visiting my new unit back in March. It did confuse me as to what it was.

Yea Kelly Field Annex has pretty much nothing these days - pretty much just my units building and a couple other things.

Yes, if we had cause to move to SA from Dallas, I would have no issues other than the summer being worse, well maybe. At least in SA, you're a lot closer to some rivers to cool down. If you've never been to Guadalupe River State Park, I highly recommend it. And oh, those breakfast tacos in SA.

Taco Haven on S Presa. Tortillas fluffy as pancakes. If I ever has cause to be in SA, I make that #1 on my meal itinerary.
I'll also shout out my go-to! The Original Donut Shop in the Deco District.
their toasted bean & cheese is simple perfection.

although there are pretty much no bad breakfast tacos in SA- only good and great ones. all the housemade tortillas are the trick!

if you're ever wanting other suggestions, food or bar or whatever-wise, I'm sure some of us would love to throw things your way.
