Well, when you've never won anything, it's easier to just root against your rival to not win. Maybe that's the disconnect you and I aren't getting on this. I would never root for Liverpool to throw a match to keep City or United from winning. Pretty sure you feel the same about Liverpool.

The closest I've got is the US National Team scoring a late equalizer against Panama on the last day of world cup qualifying in 2013. The US had already clinched qualification. If the US doesn't score this goal at 90+2, Mexico doesn't go to the WC. I still cheered like hell for St. Zusi, and really felt bad for Panama.
