Day 19: “Let’s Impeach the President for Lying” – Play a protest song or album

A concept album driven by Neil's decades long support of independent family farms in the face of corporate pressures and food modification.

I once got a job offer from Monsanto when I lived in St. Louis and was looking for any jobs with my Spanish and biology degrees... Luckily, I'd already accepted this job and didn't need to take that one!

Day 19: Protest
John Grant “Pale Green Ghosts”
From “Glacier”
What they want is commonly referred to as theocracy
And what that boils down to is referred as hypocrisy
...
And to boot they say their words
Come straight down from above
And they really seem to think
That what they're doing counts as love

This album was almost prescient in the protests that would come during Dumb Donald’s Presidency. They knew this wasn’t going to go well. They told us as much. They also thankfully gave us an album chocked full of bangers to bop our heads to while taking to the streets.

Like much of Trumps term, I'm not sure if his playing of Fortunate Son consistently on the campaign trail was trolling or ignorance. But it sure does apply to him & his bone spurs.

Stereolab - Mars Audiac Quintet

Quite a few songs get political on this album, but I'm particularly thinking of "Ping Pong," with its still-relevant lyrics:

It's alright 'cause the historical pattern has shown
How the economical cycle tends to revolve
In a round of decades three stages stand out in a loop
A slump and war then peel back to square one and back for more
Bigger slump and bigger wars and a smaller recovery
Huger slump and greater wars and a shallower recovery
You see the recovery always comes 'round again
There's nothing to worry for things will look after themselves
It's alright recovery always comes 'round again
There's nothing to worry if things can only get better
There's only millions that lose their jobs and homes and sometimes accents
There's only millions that die in their bloody wars, it's alright
It's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing
It's only their lives and the lives of their next of kin that they are losing
It's alright 'cause the historical pattern has shown
How the economical cycle tends to revolve
In a round of decades three stages stand out in a loop
A slump and war then peel back to square one and back for more
Bigger slump and bigger wars and a smaller recovery
Huger slump and greater wars and a shallower recovery
Don't worry be happy things will get better naturally
Don't worry shut up sit down go with it and be happy
