Everything Video Games!

Got Diablo IV cheap, and finally got round to starting it. Do I really need to play with other people to progress? I can’t be bothered with multiplayer, but have had fun hacking my way through the tutorial areas on my own.

Hi folks, wondering if anyone could provide some insight/advice.

Recently purchased a Switch for my kids. Havent bought a new console since Dreamcast 😬, so I'm well outta the loop. Almost videogame illiterate.

Curious if y'all had any recommendations for good games on that console for an 8 and 10 year old? So far we have Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion 2, and Metroid Dread (for me). I'm actually really excited to play some of these newer Metroid games having loved the previous 2-D games on NES, SNES, and GBA. I know there is another first-person Metroid shooter as well.

But yeah, thinking about a Mario game for the kids, probably Minecraft as well, maybe a Sonic game? Marvel vs Capcom for us as well. Any other recommendations?

Also, I'm looking for a NHL hockey game on this console, but it doesn't appear that one exists. Can I download older NHL games from other consoles, I know there are Genesis games available, so maybe NHL'94 is an option, but would much prefer NHL 2024/2025 but seems like those are only on PS5 and Xbox.

Any other advice about the console? Picked up the OLED version, will connect to TV, and have 2 additional 8bitdo full controllers I use with an Anbernic emulator.

Thanks all!

Ultimate Chicken Horse is a fun game for a mixed kid-adult group, and is usually very cheap.

We have the Nintendo Labo robot game, and our kids haven't touched it in years, I could send it to you free! Here's a video so you have an idea of what it's like:

Woah, appreciate that offer! Will let you know, the console is an X-mas gift. Gonna look up Ultimate Chicken Horse.

Watch some Ultimate Chicken Horse videos to get an idea of what it's like since I know some kids don't like it when the little furry animal they're playing as falls off a cliff or gets hit by a hockey puck! (It's an obstacle-course type game where everyone lays down traps and obstacles, then everyone has to try to get to the finish without falling or dying).

Yeah, that game looks perfect for them and really fun. Love the whole build your own levels aspect.

Stray! Cute cat in a futuristic world of robots.

Also get Snipperclips. Had a total blast playing with my niece and nephew. It's perfect for Switch's Joycon configuration.
Snipperclips™ – Cut it out, together! for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Official Site
(there's also a bundle with extra DLC)

Battloon is also a very cutesy, easy, and quick battle game that we've enjoyed with the kids and grandparents alike.

Starting playing TMNT: Splintered Fate on Steam a couple days ago. It was released early in early November but I believe it has been on Switch since July.

Recommend!

I see a lot of reviews comparing it to Hades/Hades II. That is not an unfair comparison but it is a broad brush stroke, and might make someone think that if they play Hades then it would be redundant to visit TMNT. This is not accurate. I say this as someone who has played hours upon hours of the first Hades and has already capped out everything to do in the early access of Hades II.

Hades has more variation in weapon choices that vastly change play style and tactics. As well, the boons that can be applied in Hades more significantly change runs.

While, for example, choosing Don with the bo staff or Raph with the sais certainly change smaller (relative to Hades) play style, there is still a much smaller gap in play when changing from one character to another. As well, I find that the turtle powers, swapping out tools, and gaining elemental damage do much less to change the overall characteristics of a run in TMNT.

However, where TMNT really shines is the co-op play. I have played a few rounds in public servers and it is really fun to play with three other people. I feel like the ability to play with others really sets the game apart and makes it a worthwhile grab.

Additionally, the game captures the attitude and style of TMNT really well and it is a fun game.
