Audio Hardware Deals: Speakers, Headphones, Turntables, Etc.

Yeah, well... I think J. C. Penny tried to cut the sale bullshit a few years ago. They pulled down all the sale signs and put honest prices on all the tags.
They almost went out of business because the customers were waiting for a "sale."
Lesson learned: if you want to succeed in America, put outrageous prices on the tags and run an unending series of sales to mark it down to the real price.

Haha yeah we have a random warehouse style retailer of electrical goods here. They put the MRSP of stuff like TVs and then knock a couple of hundred off in a never ending big sale. The problem is that MRSPs of things like that are unrealistically insane. The store across the road has a list price that’s nearly always at least a couple of hundred below the first stores sale price. I sometimes wonder how they are still in business...

Never underestimate the power of that word. lot of people probably don't even look at the other store because they're not the one running the sale.
As for MSRP, I think those exist purely as an excuse for a sale. Can you picture the conversation? "We have a sale for 80% off! Off of what? The MSRP! Has anyone actualy paid MSRP for anything, ever?"

Some gear you have to. My current and previous pair of speakers come to mind.

Yeah high end audio is one of the few though. It’s specialist gear from smaller specialist manufacturers.

For Korean UHD TVs (or similar mass market hifi stuff) that is knocked out by the tens of thousands they’re definitely not an indication of what you should be paying lol!

How about a $500 Martin Logan powered subwoofer for $199 with free shipping?

Who knew Walmart carried good stuff?
Doesn't look like the link is available anymore but I did find the ELAC S8 100 watt sub normally $300 for $99. Any thoughts on if this would be a good addition to my system at this price?

EDIT: Looks like this is readily available from other sellers at a similar price point. But my question still stands.

I think the Martin Logan is a better deal and a better long term solution.

Link above worked for me. It's available at the same price from an Amazon seller as well (Prime): https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B002J9G5ZO/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

I was pushed to the SVS SB12NSD by displayname. They have been available black friday for $300 last 3 years. I bought mine off Craiglist and it is a very nice sub. Power wise I keep it at around quarter volume and it thumps. It complements my bookshelves very well. I strongly endorse SDS subs.
As mentioned above by Hifi Guy Martin Logan is a solid bang for buck also in the need it now category.
