Another month, another challenge thread!

Same rules as usual:
- not a contest or competition
- each challenge is up to your own interpretation
- try as best as you can to play something that hasn’t been played yet on that day
- catching up is encouraged if you happen to miss a day or two (as I do on a monthly basis)
- don’t be shy about telling stories about the records you choose, but don’t feel you have to elaborate on anything you post either
- Have Fun! that’s an order btw

As with the last thread I hosted (back in July 2019, oh how it feels so long ago), I’m doing daily reveals for each theme/challenge, every night at 12e/9p (or a bit earlier if I choose to) starting tonight! Let’s Go!

DAY 1: FUNNIER THAN 25

So much unnecessary thought that went into today’s theme that I’m just gonna spout off here because... why not? mostly just to explain the title

Exactly 6 months ago I turned 24. Exactly 6 months from now I’ll be turning 25. The first thing that came to my mind as I realized that was this clip from SpongeBob:

The peak of comedy right here, y’all.

It was from that clip (and the fact that it’s April Fool’s Day) that I came up with today’s simple-ass theme:

PLAY A FUNNY RECORD

Johnny Cash - Everybody Loves a Nut

I momentarily swiped this album from my dad’s collection because I don’t really have any funny music in mine. Sadly I didn’t find this album to be all that funny. …or good. Eh, I tried. 🤷‍♂️

Day 1: Funnier Than 25 - play a funny record

Kanye West - Late Registration

I don't really own any truly funny records, but Kanye is always good for a humorous line or two. Also, Addiction samples Etta James' My Funny Valentine.

Day 1: Funnier Than 25
play a funny record

Dent May "Across The Multiverse" (2017 Carpark; VMP exclusive version)

Love the clever writing, mixing melancholy and wit with upbeat arrangements. My favorite is the phrase "Face Down In The Gutter Of Your Love" which gives me a little chuckle despite being about heartbreak.

Play something funny!
Rufus Wainwright - Rufus Wainwright

Rufus comes from a funny and talented family both his sister, Martha and Pop, Loudon are blessed with the gift of wit that often translates to laugh out loud turns of phrase in their songwriting, Rufus is perhaps the funniest of them all. Plus it gives me a reason to listen to one of the only genuinely great things this wretched holiday ever produced...

Day 1: Funnier Than 25
play a funny record

Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass

Lots of funny little turns of phrase and dark humor in Aes's stuff.

Dylan can be funny

"Well, my telephone rang it would not stop
It's President Kennedy callin' me up
He said, My friend, Bob, what do we need to make the country grow?
I said my friend, John, Brigitte Bardot
Anita Ekberg
Sophia Loren
Country'll grow"

DAY 1
FUNNY
Danny Brown - uknowhatimsayin¿
In interviews leading up to the release of this album, Danny Brown said that it was heavily inspired by stand-up comedy, and while this album isn't without its share of serious and more straight-faced moments, in typical Danny Brown fashion, there's plenty of witty, filthy and outrageous punchlines all over the place. Even the RTJ feature on "4 Tearz" has some pretty funny lines in it.
