This was as good as I could do. 1980s generally a bit of a weak spot for me but often helped out by decent African releases (more so earlier in the decade). I've restricted myself, as usual, only to records I actually own.

1. REM - Lifes Rich Pageant
2. Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill
3. Franco et OK Jazz - La Vie des Hommes
4. Bruce Springsteen - Live 1975-85
5. Van Morrison - No Guru, No Method, No Teacher
6. Son Palenque - Afric Erotic (link is to a compilation, not this album)
7. Youssou N'Dour & Super Etoile - Nelson Mandela
8. Paul Simon - Graceland

spreddy updated! (ocd feels betterer now, thanks @Woob_woob)

86 was a pretty stellar year - hard to go past the smiths at the top of the tree

some great antipodean albums from the likes of the triffids (two!!), hunters and collectors, crowded house, the go-betweens, nick cave and the bad seeds, paul kelly and the coloured girls, died pretty...
