Aren't they discontinued? I thought it was now just sort of the basis around the TimeMachine backup system? I remember a friend had the little pocket wifi unit and it was great for hooking up to speakers

Got back on the vmp shit show with the discount deal, spinning my stooges for the second time today. Top vmp yet for me.

Wow that’s awesome dude! Can’t wait to spin it. I think my fav VMP is either Blossom Dearie or Al Green
Was able to go with the owner of the record store I frequent on a buy and was fortunate to come away with a few exciting things including my first original Townes Van Zandt.
Am I missing something... vmp selling in stock analogue productions reissues for more then they cost direct from acoustic sounds?

I no longer have a vmp subscription so I thought although unlikely that you could swap for one of these. I can appreciate the communal nature of vmp but as someone who doesn’t care about that I didn’t see them as a good value.

There’s almost no way they will let you swap for these. As someone else said, probably trying to have a good relationship so they can do a color variant of an AP pressing.
I’m finding after listening to cd’s for awhile that the older they are the better they tend to sound. Is this just subjective and or common opinion in a rash generalization?

I know a lot of audiophiles prefer older CDs, ie a lot of the reissues from the late 80s and early 90s, because they're not as brickwalled as part of the loudness wars.

Really depends. Some early CDs were not mastered well for the medium. Others were done very well. Look for the old ones that were made in Europe, even the ones sold as US releases.

There are some CDs that are just needle drops, you can hear vinyl pops and crackle. Sort of like how some albums are now just CDs pressed to vinyl.

But then on the other hand the original Beatles CDs do not sound good next to the reissue campaign of several years back.

Do six eye Columbia pressings tend to have a lot of inherent surface noise?

On a positive note this original mono Marty Robbins hipster special album to sound nice regardless.

That was my default rationale that even if they appear to be in good shape they are mostly all old enough to have been played with crazy styli with possibly absurd vtf lol

Also not a large sample size I’m speaking to my experience with 1 new sealed and maybe another 10-20 nice flat vg+ copies of various genres and artists but all six eye Columbia
What’s the deal with the guy that has the “vinyljunkies” YouTube channel, as much as I loved many of his videos in the past his channel seems like it pivoted.

His early videos were short then he progressed to videos reviewing records, highlighting poplar records from specific genres stuff i found entertaining maybe more then informative but none the less i enjoyed them now he does some like semi radio show talking over music, good for him but not my thing.

Am I correct in my understanding w/gm standards a “nm” disc would be visibly flawless with no scratches or warps ?

Obviously if someone doesn’t grade accurately they will have plenty of negative reviews.

Problem is there’s been a rush of buyers/sellers to stuff like Discogs with little/no previous exposure to grading with the “vinyl renaissance,” so it creates a bit of a feedback loop. The grading system tends to get watered down, unfortunately. In turn, that starts skewing values. At this point I almost think Discogs should build out their own grading system that’s caters more to selling and today’s marketplace.

I agree with how readily available info is to many people a more quantifiable and analytical grading scale with numbers instead of the current nomenclature.
Half price books final sale day. NM disc VG jacket Bitches Sin “Invaders” $13 feels like a win!

Rocket records has exclusively bad reviews seemingly so I avoided it entirely. My main spot is lost in the groove in mount Vernon. I’ve wanted to go to golden oldies I have always wondered if you’re allowed to park behind it. I may hit up hi voltage again but honestly

I’m not into looking through A bunch of overpriced stuff to maybe find something, I found their jazz rock and classical albums to be absurdly over priced. They can’t help charging for new stuff that’s just how it is, but used is crazy. It is well curated and clean and seemed to have good service.

Right on! And if all else fails there’s always Half Priced Books. I have never been to Lost In The Groove. Mount Vernon is a bit north of my normal search area but maybe this Spring during tulip season we’ll make it up that way.
I don’t know how I feel about the new cartridge at this point other then it’s the first time I’ve been able to listen to records with no “hum” from the cart.
The new cart indeed did not make it today but it should tomorrow also don’t think my mirror protractor will arrive tomorrow the non mirror protractor isn’t so easy to use
