Perfect timing for my VMP subscription to be up! I’m not a fan of The Stooges or Rick Ross. I already have an Otis Redding album and even if I wanted the Classics album, it was sold out. So I gave the money I would’ve spent to an unemployed bartender for karma points.

For anybody interested, my 1972 buys ended up being (1) Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust (2) Mayfield’s Superfly and (3) Lou Reed’s Transformer.
So...uh...there were quite a few big albums released in 1972, huh? I might have to have a 2-month buying period for ‘72. Jeeeeez.
My 1971 buys for my collection are Rolling Stones “Sticky Fingers,” The Who “Who’s Next,” and Carole King “Tapestry”
I feel like I've gradually gotten way more selective about my record purchases. This time last year: "It spins! I'mma get it!" Summer last year: "It slaps! I'mma get it!" Now: "Is this one of the greatest albums of all time? Better stream it 25-37 more times to be sure before I buy it." I think it's space rather than fear that's the mind killer...

For 2020, I’m going to focus on the “essential classics” of the 70s. To get a bit more variety than just a whole bunch of Black Sabbath and David Bowie, I am going to abide by the rule of “only 1 album from this decade per artist.” This January, for the year 1970, I am getting (1) Black Sabbath - Paranoid (2) Led Zeppelin - III (3) Van Morrison - Moondance.
The family got me (1) What’s Goin’ On? (2) OK Computer (3) Moving Pictures (4) Appetite for Destruction and (5) Dark side of the Moon for Christmas!
