On first listen, I didn't really see what made this new oso oso album that great. Then I re-listened and the melodies started boring their way into my brain.
I mentioned Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" in class, and one of my students then said "Oh, but Disturbed did it better!" I managed not to say anything after that, but it was hard. Oh, so very hard.
This new Jay Som album is just as solid as her first- I've been playing it on my phone daily since Friday. Can't wait to check the mailbox tomorrow and put it on my turntable.
I only have the 47 enticing new releases coming out today to listen to, plus I'm getting into Baroness's discography, so I hope my family is OK with me only listening to music and not talking to them for a week or so.
I've decided that black midi are going onto the list of "bands/artists I respect the hell out of, but don't actually want to listen to."
I still legit laugh out loud every time I hear the "Preview" bonus track at the end of Built to Spill's There's Nothing Wrong With Love.
Today would have been Elliott Smith's 50th birthday, so I know what I'll be spinning after work.

Who here has named a kid after a musician (or at least the name was partially inspired by one)? I have a son named Elliott (after Elliott Smith).
I was just remembering going through my dad's old CDs from the 80s and loving the page of instructions on how to use and care for a CD, including a warning that it will only work in a CD player, NOT a record player.
In a first for me, I got a record with a loose, crinkly label on one side. It's also slightly dished, so I don't know if these things are related...
I'm staying at a place off of a Beulah Rd. this weekend, so every time I go anywhere I'm reminded of how much I'd love their albums to be repressed.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Gonna pick up Anima on Friday, then the plan is to not buy anything on vinyl through August to save a little

I'm taking a long lunch and listening to Trust in the Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery followed by Flamagra and I think I might be floating off into some kind of psychedelic cosmic realm guys help -
