The 4-year-old's chosen soundtrack for the drive back to Mom's this week was Gillian Welch's Time (The Revelator) and Slayer's Seasons in the Abyss. Makes me feel like I've done something right!
Just learned that Stó:lō poet, author and teacher Lee Maracle has passed at age 71.
She was a powerhouse and an absolute treasure. We are richer for the time, energy, wisdom and words she gave while here.
Rest in Power, Lee.
First year my parenting time with the 4-year-old has landed on Halloween, so my first time out trick-or-treating since around 1992 and I had such a blast. It was the newborn's first time out too, but they slept through it entirely!
Some magnificent decorations, costumes and characters. And so many families. I've become less and less a fan of people over the years, but this was really fun!
Often I'll go months, even years at times, without listening to this and then I'll have nights like tonight where I have to play it over and over again...
Woke up this morning to my phone having somehow used up 40% of its battery and my laptop having changed its timezone. After an intense couple of days and with a thoroughly over-occupied brainspace, I can't help but think maybe my devices have started openly mocking me.
Wife suggested we set up the projector and do a movie night with the 4-year-old since the two of them are under the weather. Had to turn off Toy Story halfway through because he didn't like Buzz and Woody fighting. Didn't like the 1981 Spider-Man cartoon either. The Comet Is Coming's Tiny Desk show, though? Couldn't get enough of it!
I may have reached a new level of nerdiness today by reaching out to a major music media outlet and asking them to make a correction to one of their articles in favour of a band most people have never heard of who wrote a song nearly everyone has probably heard.
The 4-year-old's sass game is leveling up! We were browsing at the record store during errands this morning when I pulled out my phone to look up pressing info on something and heard the following moments later:
"Dad, did we come here to look at your phone, or did we come here to pick up a record?!"
