Probably should just get a sitter

@CAPacelli thanks but that’s not the advice I’m looking for. My wife has no interest in this concert, but my son does. I’m happy to hear horror stories from parents who actually tried to pull this off.

Define "rock".... Closest I can get is taking my 7 year old to Wilco. Earplugs and a shirt and he was a pretty content kid for the set, although he got pretty tired by the end of the night. Just keep him/her engaged (dancing, picking them up, pointing cool stuff out, etc) and you'll be golden. It'll be different than going with an adult.... So don't expect that.... But it'll be fun and memorable and cool.

You're seeing Wilco? What a coincidence. The kid will have a blast! Make sure the child takes notes during Impossible Germany.

I’ve been taking my daughter to free concerts in the park since she was a few months old . We stayed far away from the speakers the 1st few years and it was cancelled last year , Shes 7 now so we should have a good time when they resume this year.

I grew up at festivals and I turned out... um fine? nah, but in all actuality- as long as it's not a super late show or super adult crowd, it will be a memorable experience for both of you. get a pair of over-ear protectors, like those used at shooting ranges.

My first concert was ELO at Chicago Stadium in '78. I was nine, and so amped up that I barfed in the restroom before the show. Your son's probably cooler than me, but maybe stick to a light preshow meal, and know where the nearest restroom is?

Bring earplugs that fit your kid's ears.

And be prepared to leave if your kid can't deal as it gets late. Don't be the person who wrecks a show for other folks as your kid has a meltdown.

Festivals are always easier than seated venues since the kids can get up and move, they start earlier (see above), and there are more opportunities to take breaks for snacks, etc.

@TCell I hear ya, I am considering lawn tickets instead of amphitheater seating for that reason. My son is particularly hyperactive/physical though tbh live music is one of the only things that gets him to just sit and watch.

Morgan started going with me to shows at four. We saw Peter, Paul and Mary. Everything was fine. We went to outdoor shows for the longest time because lawn seats makes the most sense for a kid. We’ve seen Bela, Wilco, Kishi, Sturgill, Punch Brothers, Black Pumas.... she’s my favorite person to go to shows with.
