  • Embarrassed to admit that I’m just now discovering how great Nick Lowe is.

I've always wanted to get more into Nick Lowe but then nothing he's done (IMO) has lived up to how fucking good of a song "Cruel to Be Kind" is.

He has so many great songs. Admittedly, they are scattered across his albums, but, "The Impossible Bird" is one of my favorite albums of the 90s. It's a more mellow/mature sound for him, but it suits him well.

Wait, so Lorde takes a trip to Antarctica and then releases a new single that starts by exclaiming that she hates the winter and can’t stand cold? 😵

    @Corycm seems about right 😆
For the record, not bashing… just confused. Lorde delivered with the single, IMO. If anything, people will rip her for wanting to be environmentally conscious because it’s near impossible for your actions to match your intentions and the whole idea is rife with contradictions. But hey, I won’t bash anybody for trying!

Thats why she went there. To increase the melting of the ice by flying.
IKEA Kallax trip is happening! Going for a 3x3 with a 4x1 on each side of it. Hopefully it ends up looking alright!

I think I'd have preferred that to my 4x4. Like @LeeVing said the 3x is better turntable height. I can't quite enjoy the view with the 4x4.

The 4x1 was a tad too tall on one side so I had to modify it to 3.5 height and just barely pulled it off. @Hemotep honestly, the 3x height is too tall for me too, I preferred it at the 2x height but that might just be because I’m average height and had already gotten used to the 2x

I get that. I'm 6'5", so with my 1x4 on top of a 2x4 it is about 46 inches, and that hits me right at my stomach...no bending or hunching over to flip a record.
I know I turned a couple fellow emo fans onto this band, so just thought I’d send a note to them that their new songs kick ass and preorders for vinyl are live.

Waiting in line for my first in person RSD is proving to be similar to online. Lots of people tiptoe-ing around the fact they really want some things while also bragging about how much they same-day flipped other things for 🤦‍♂️
My wife just absolutely killed me in the dad-joke department. While driving through Canada we pass by a secondary school and I question aloud “I wonder if the grading system is the same in Canada”. To which she quickly quips “I think so, but the students all get straight Eh’s”.
BofA setting their minimum wage to $25/hr 😳

socialism doesn’t work, my ass. Finally, labor is getting appreciated.
Somehow just now listening to Harry Styles’ - From the Dining Table. Love it. Like a weird mix between UMO and Jack Johnson, but it works.

Harry is legit. I feel like he has an amazing project in him and he's yet to reach his full potential. Not that his two solo albums are bad, they are just a little all over the place. But I look forward to seeing what he does next.

I’ve been really surprised by his music. I expected it to be just pure pop but he’s done some interesting songs and is legit talented.
I thought you didn’t have to pay sales tax for online purchases if that business didn’t have a physical presence in the state. Why am I paying CA taxes for VMP?

Absolutely! To me, it’s a case of “can’t have your cake and eat it too”. I can’t really be an advocate of so many various social programs and expect to not pay taxes. My gripes come mainly from the complicated tax codes that ultimately lead to breaks for the already privileged.

I’d be interested in a flat tax, no loophole type of thing. If that would even be possible. I also think that significantly increasing the death tax whilst increasing the $15k gift allotment may help. This would put the wealthy elderly into a position of distributing their wealth before they pass.
Looking at the Wyze Cam V3. Anyone have one, or any insight to other indoor/outdoor home security cams?
So like... now that shows are becoming a thing again and I’ll be back in civilization soon... is there a reliable and good way to see all the shows coming up in my neck of the woods (other than going to each venues individual website) before they, ya know, sell out to scalpers 5 minutes after going on sale?

If you have spotify, make sure you click the “follow” button at the top of your favorite artists’ profiles. Many artists will send emails out about tour pre-sales or album pre-orders to their followers. (At least, I’m assuming that’s how they do it - I get a fair amount of emails from spotify that just say something along the lines of me being one of their biggest fans or whatever.)

@GritNGlitter the writer of the book of Mormon said in order to translate some of the tablets he had to wear rose colored glasses in order to see them. There's also a possible etymological link to chickens, which most linguists think is less likely but it's one that I particularly love.

Yo, I’m learning a lot here. I just associated sepia tone as the “comic sans” of photo filters 🤷‍♂️

@JonnyH Interesting! I've never heard Urim and Thummim referred to as rose-colored, but I'm not mormon.

Thought I was going to jail earlier as I was alerted by the US Marshals Office of some warrants, but thankfully I was able to avoid arrests and had charges dropped with a simple wire transfer.
I’ve had this car for 4 years and I still crank the climate control all the way up when I mean to raise the volume. Every. Damn. Time.

Well yeah, but I never got used to them because I always saw them as unnecessary when driving an automatic where you’re not using your right hand for much at all. Going from 0-150db on the steering wheel is a slower response than an ideal instant method of reaching up and cranking a knob all the way up. I’m just a crotchety old man though.

Crotchety confirmed. I had to force myself to learn my controls because even though I have a free hand, it's a much shorter travel point to the steering wheel to change the track/volume than on my console. Probably have avoided some wrecks because of it.
