Marcalla Hazan's tomato sauce recipe is a masterpiece for the ages.... used it as a base for a Stimson surf clam pasta last night. So simple, so delicious. Salivating at the thought of having the leftovers for lunch already....
I went down a rabbit hole and made a playlist: "Northern Funk". It's a compilation of recent Canadian funk with a heavy dose from French Canada. Been grooving to it since last night and thought I'd share. Probably new to most of you but it's good stuff to warm the soul during winter...
So what the fuck eh? You guys all decided to have a party without me and then ignored me while I was knocking at the door. It was freezing out here. What? You all thought I couldn't hear all the disco musics and the getting down? Not nice, people!
Algiers "There Is No Year". Here's an album I completely forgot came out in 2020. Maybe we should have looked at that title a little more closely when it came out in January?
My top played song on Spotify this year was Bad Decisions by The Strokes, but the number is small (7) so I really played a wide variety of music. The most surprising news is that I'm apparently a "tastemaker", having added ~860 followers to my playlists (I apparently have 2 popular playlists which grew a lot more than I thought with followers).
I'm been looking to add a copy of J Dilla's Donuts to my collection... what are your opinions on a good pressing to get? Any particularly good ones? Any to avoid?
For fans of hard-boiled/noir/crime novels: "August Snow" by Stephen Mack Jones was a fun read. Modern Detroit gets a treatment similar to Washington D.C. in Pelecanos novels.
