Really? Even if we take away the racism and the admissions of marital rape, which I’m not willing to, I’ve always found him to be a proficient player but a terrible songwriter, most of his stuff is so boring that it verges on the unlistenable. He does have the odd good song but in a career that long you’re going to have.
Click-baity title. Bridgers doesn't like him as a person due to a past racist rant, yet admits she likes some of his songs. So just sounds like a case of separating art from artist turned into a rant that was publicized.
Disagree @Melt Face Molly Drop ”it’s extremely mediocre music but that’s up there with the ones I’d actually like” reads as exactly what the title says to me...
Lots of my Artists I enjoy were (and are) terrible people but I am good at separating the awful people from the amazing art they created. I am speaking Purely from a musical place. I enjoy Derek and Dominos stuff and a few of his coked out mid to late 70s albums. None are my favorite but I enjoy their vibe.
You just combined two separate quoted sentences into one. But regardless, everything post 1970 save for Slowhand and his Unplugged effort would probably pass as mediocre to me. But admittedly, I don't know his catalog that well.
However, I feel you can't deny the genius of his work with the Yardbirds, Cream, Dominoes, Blind Faith. So that's also why I feel this is clickbaity, unless she goes on to clarify that his ENTIRE body of work is mediocre.
