  • Taking some time this afternoon to rip the audio from some of my favorite performances from last night's John Prine tribute.
Barracuda Club in Austin announced they are closing permanently. Saw some really great shows there in recent years, including Lucy Dacus/Illuminati Hotties delivering the goods on the outdoor stage under some absolutely terrible weather conditions.

Oh man... this is gonna keep on happening. I can see stubs and maybe Emos staying... But those developers are looking for any opportunity to buy up that land!

Yeah, that was sort of my first thought when I saw the news this morning..."And so it begins". Frankly, I'm surprised we haven't seen more venues shuttering for good already. But it still stings. I never really liked that venue when it was Red 7, but the Barracuda team made a lot of improvements to turn things in the right direction, and their booking team was doing good work as well.
I don't have the best hit ratio when ordering from Merge. I feel like I have to request replacement copies about half of the time.
In addition to our resident Hatbird, today is also the birth date of the late, great Curtis Mayfield. His music, both solo material and his work with The Impressions, has been in constant rotation for me over the past week or so.

Looks like it was a RSD 2020 release. My mind's been on other things, so it makes sense I wasn't clued in on this one. I have the CD of this, and it is a really great live collection.

It's definitely going to take some time for my ears to adjust to this slightly slower version of 'I'll Be You'. This corrected version sounds great, but I'm just so used to the version from "Don't Tell A Soul".

It is definitely hard to make adjustments after hearing a song (or songs) one way for 30 years. As much as I disliked the production on "Don't Tell A Soul", that is what I heard first, and what my brain is used to. Still, hearing this new mix puts the entire album in a much more favorable light. It feels closer to "Tim" now, although this group of songs still feels more pop oriented than the ones on "Tim".
It's real simple AXS TV. If you're gonna keep airing "The Last Waltz", I'm going to keep watching "The Last Waltz". I'm game if you are.

I *really* wish there was video footage of the whole concert.

Yeah. The cool thing about it is that I always notice new things every time I watch it. Especially after reading Robbie's book. I just noticed on this morning's viewing that Levon stretches his legs like a track star before hopping behind the kit for the encore of "Don't Do It".

Rick's stone face delivery of the line "And you know what happens when you have too much fun" always cracks me up.
My, um, replacement order of that "Dead Man's Pop" collection arrived today, and this time it's not an acrylic box. Yay! Actually, I think they did a terrific job with the production of the packaging for this box set. And the liner notes are very informative too. Been a pretty shit week, so this is a much needed distraction.
My sister gave me some Amazon credit last week for my birthday. I ended up ordering The Replacements' "Dead Man's Pop" box set. My order arrived today, but instead of a 4 CD/1 LP box set, Amazon sent me a medium size clear plastic box like you would get from The Container Store. Happy Birthday?
Busting out some old music doc DVDs this weekend to help pass the time. Last night was the Joy Division doc since it was the anniversary of Ian's passing. Tonight, it's "NewOrder Story". Man, I forgot how different the format of this doc is. The Sex Pistols doc, "The Filth and the Fury" is in the on deck circle.

All good ones. If you haven't watched them in a while (I'm assuming you have, being a man of wealth and taste) you can never go wrong with Dig, You See Me Laughing, Tell Me Do You Miss Me and Last Days Here.

I love Dig. That is on the list to watch. I haven't watched "The Filth and the Fury" in a long time. That moment where Johnny Rotten breaks down talking about Sid, albeit in silhouette, is such a rare moment of his breaking character. Who are the others that you mentioned on?
