It kinda depends on what your TT can handle. Generally a clamp is better because it has a bit more downward force to it and it doesn't add much actual weight to your platter which can in turn cause issues with some TTs if you're putting big heavy weights on them that the motor can't handle. BUT it depends on what kind of spindle you've got and whether it can handle a clamp.
