  • AXS TV is airing a documentary called "Festival Express" right now. I have it on in the background while I'm "working". How in the world did I not know about this doc or this whole Festival Express event in 1970? Major music blind spot for me until now.

Yeah, I don't mean what the Last Waltz ended up being specifically (I love it and watch it a couple times a year), moreso that it was obvious that the other guys didn't want the Band to end at that time.

I figured that's what you were getting at. I've always seen Robbie as more ambitious than evil. Maybe he didn't think they could re-capture what they had earlier on & wanted to move on. Again, if he messed around with the songwriting credits & screwed the other guys financially, that gets closer to evil. At the very least, it was a cold-blooded move that could have sent some of the guys down a worse path.

I agree with that entirely! I'm sure there's a lot of truth to Robbie's thinking that it was becoming dysfunctional toward the end, and I'm positive their best work was behind them anyway. The human impact was very unfortunate, though, that's all.

It looks like my job will be ending at the end of this month, about a month earlier than originally expected. Not really surprised since everything is shutting down at this point. Not sure how I'm going to find a job when companies are in hiring freezes, cutting staff, and shutting down altogether.

Enjoying this little nostalgic trip. Tracklist holds up pretty well, although I did make a couple of minor changes. I swapped out the Elvis Costello song for one that he was playing more around that time, and I cut the Ryan Adams track I had on there, cuz eff that guy.

I replaced that one with songs from Cat Power, Wilco and Drive-By Truckers, so, probably an upgrade. I didn't see all of these that year, but they all played in 2004, and I've seen almost all of these artists at one point or another.
For me at least, the worst part of all of this is wanting to help out others in the community, but not feeling like I can because I'm in such a perilous situation myself. I know I'm certainly not alone in feeling that way.

For sure. I think the best thing we can do is be kind, supportive, go out of our way to do the "small" things when we can, etc. It's tough for everyone.

@nolalady I’m glad it’s not just my grandparents! My Grandma is an 84 year old extremely social diabetic with a failing pacemaker.... you think that combo keeps her from wanting to pick the kids up and take them to closed movie theater, yeahhhhh

@Tys1 My MIL is 69 and she was astounded that a 71 y/o died from this virus. She told me, "That's so young!" And I didn't have the heart to tell her that 71 is not young. It is old and so is she. I really don't think they get it. I'm keeping my kids away from you to keep you safe. They think I'm the crazy one.
Looking for a job as the economy collapses and the city/country grind to a complete halt is...not ideal.

I mean, at least I already knew I was losing my job before all of this. Unfortunately, a lot of folks are being (or will be) blindsided by finding themselves out of a job as this rolls on. I'm just very concerned about what will be available employment wise, as companies go through some hard times financially. And I'm also worried that my current job might end sooner than expected. Good times.

I can't imagine dealing with office closures just to get the interview! Hope it gets better for ya.
Pardon my French, but Jim Bakker and Alex Jones can take their coronavirus preventing snake oils and toothpastes, and they can fuck right off. The last thing we need out there now is more disinformation and preying upon the elderly who are understandably on edge.
I'm not sure there has ever been a movie I've changed my opinion on more over time than "The Darjeeling Limited". In a positive way.
Shoutout to the El Campo, TX water tower making a brief appearance in the ZZ Top Netflix documentary via some vintage home movie footage. It's the small town that my parents are from.
SXSW has been cancelled. Going to be a rough financial hit for the city, and so many workers that count on it to meet numbers for the year. But importing people from all over the world probably isn't the best thing at the present time.
    Dear Spotify Release Radar,

Next time, maybe throw in a buffer song in between a new Sparks song and a new Willie track. Thnx!

I caught some of the INXS episode of Rock Legends earlier this evening. Those mini-docs aren't very well done at all, but it was a nice reminder of all the hits that band produced in their prime years.
