June 2021 Vinyl Spin Challenge: 🌈☀️Holidaze 🎶🪐

Day 19 - World Juggler's Day - Artists are multitalented. What instruments do they juggle to make beautiful music? 🤹‍♂️🤹‍♀️

Kelly Finnigan - The Tales People Tell

According to the credits Kelly plays Drums, Piano, Organ, Percussion, Xylophone, Clavinet, Vibraphone, and Baritone Fuzz Electric Guitar in addition to laying down vocals on this album. Oh yeah, and he wrote, recorded, and produced the album too!

Juneteenth

I don't really have anything Juneteeth specific, but I'll settle with keeping today's spins strictly to Black artists.

National Kissing Day

Sun Ra Arkestra - Chicago '88 FM Broadcast
20210619_170429.jpg

Can't do much kissing right now because the wife is at work but I also tend to avoid playing Sun Ra when she's around, so this boot of the 1988 NPR broadcast is like a "Prelude to a Kiss."

The cover photo featuring the 2013 Arkestra of 20 years after Sun Ra's departure and 25 years after this performance is definitely a strange packaging choice but that's the joy and mystique of boots, I suppose!

(Today's Spotify link is from a show the month before the one I'm currently spinning as it's the closest chronological performance available.)

Day 19: Juneteenth
celebrates and symbolizes the end of slavery in the United States. "We must learn to live together as brothers, or perish as fools." - - Martin Luther King Jr.

Charley Crockett - Lil G.L.’s Honky Tonk Jubilee

Seems appropriate to celebrate Juneteenth with a native Texan performing some fantastic covers of Honky Tonk classics.

June 18 Take a Road Trip Day - Make a mix tape and cruise! 🛣️🚗

I love road trips. My wife and I have been doing them together since our first couple months of dating...lots of Michigan trips but some out of state trips too. This year we have a trip to northern MI next week, and a drive to Glacier National in August.
So any trip's mix tape or playlist or iPod shuffle for us is going to have the Beasties on it.

Also, the reflection on vinyl TT from the Isles/TB game is really cool...looks like it's part of the artwork.
