Definitive Audiophile pressings

AP did the WYWH SACD recently and the DSOTM SACD on preorder (admittedly on preorder for a long time; although not nearly as long as the Roger Waters' 4LP 45 RPM of Amused to Death which has been on pre order for YEARS. FOR. YEARS...)

I don't see it out if the realm of possibility. Does RW need to sign off on REs? Don't the other 2 control licensing?

I'd be down to see The Who get a release. Less excited about about Zep. And I think Page would be a road block. I think he'd want to have his hand too much in it rather than just license it.

If they did Led Zeppelin (or the Who for that matter) surely they would use the metalwork from the classic issues, it shouldn't be that difficult to sell.

Didn't Michael Jackson own the rights to the Beatles records, not sure how long ago that was, but I think it's only recently that McCartney bought them back.
Yeah, when Jackson Died, Sony ended up with the full rights to the Beatles Publishing Catalog (they already owned 50% of the rights due to Jackson selling them to cover some of his massive debt) then Macca sued and they reached a settlement.

The publishing rights to the Lennon/McCartney stuff. So he got the publishing royalties. Parlophone/Apple owned the master tapes. Ultimately I think The Beatles themselves do now and releases are licensed to universal currently for a contractual term. I didn’t know McCartney owned his publishing rights again, I thought Sony had them, they assumed ownership from the Jackson estate as part of the settlement of pretty big debts that Michael owed Sony when he died.

Edit: Beaten to it 😂

From the recent Video Conversation I think it is more the fact that they simply do not have the capability to press the # of UHQR Recs that would be needed to fill the demand. So all those $$$s just sit on the table while I continue to exercise, eat right, and preserve my hearing in a vain attempt to live long for them to up the game. :).

Following on other replies, the specific distinction is between rights in a composition (publishing) versus a specific recording of a composition (the master of the "sound recording"). Neil Diamond composed "Red Red Wine" and owned composition/publishing rights (unless legally assigned to a label or someone else), but UB40 or, more likely, their label, owned the master sound recording in their version of Red, Red
Wine.

Talk of owning masters brings up a tangent that I think is very interesting, namely, the concept of an artist re-recording an album or song because they don't own the masters. The tactic is designed to replace the original recorded version w/ the new version in the marketplace (for sync royalties; streaming royalties; mechanical royalties; etc.).

This strategy has been a mixed bag, successful for some (wildly so for Taylor Swift and also successful for Sinatra and Def Leppard) but a failure for others (Sqeeze and many others). More in these two pieces if you're interested:

K, who's JPC? I feel I might need to get to know them, lol

extremely fair shipping prices to the US plus good prices on SC albums (and other items compared to US shops. I think I ordered 4 last time and it came out to under $30 each shipped. Shipping is all over the place in terms of speed. Mine took 6 weeks. Others got theirs quicker. I wanna say @Russ I was the original person to point them out?
