Definitive Audiophile pressings

Okay so the general consensus seems to be that they're all pretty close to on par, for the most part. No big issues with any of them so that's good. I generally find MPO pretty good and obviously same with RTI so cool... thanks I'll just see what's available...

People seem to think the first MPO pressings sound best but this might be a case of not being able to distinguish which ones are which unless they are unsealed...
Maybe there were black MPOs as well but I got the clear and the black in the first week and the clear was MPO and the black was RTI. So, I would consider RTI first press as well. Have not looked into future presses though.

I exchanged a clear for another clear because it had a rather off-center spindle hole and the second one did as well and then they all disappeared. So, I traded my clear for a black RTI which ended up being very dished. 😅
Thought I could get another clear but the BN was confused about their stock. Still cringe a little bit when I see the prices for the clears but I know I made that guy really happy and the RTI sounds good.

I find MPO to be generally pretty good too. They're up there with Gotta Groove and RI in that next tier for me. Optimal is close but I've gotten some noisy pressings and damned dishes I can't correct from them.

My copy is cut by The Man™

I’ve got a numbered Black Friday mono pressing:

Listening to it now and it sounds very good. Big soundstage, well-balanced with a deep bottom end. Horns sound very natural; high-hat is crisp and clear; piano and bass are very present in the mix. Yeah, this sounds great (and I assume the same would be true for the un-numbered 2013 mono pressing that was linked earlier).

Do the most recent ones really seem like 180G btw? Mine seems lighter than that. But like I said sounds good.

Just got my MoFi of Layla and I really forgot how much I like the album. By far my favorite Clapton record. I don’t think I’ve played it in five years or so. My play copy was a clean early 80’s pressing I think. Some later reissue. I also have a shitty OG with a solid cover framed above my TT but more-so because I’ve always loved the art. But from what I remember of how those copies sound, this MoFi pressing sounds better though it’s no sonic marvel. I’ll have to blast it sometime. I’ve had Anyday stuck in my head all day.

Good to hear. Mine is on the way. I have a record club pressing that doesn't sound bad but it's not in the best of shape. I'm sure the MoFi will best it. On the subject of non-sonic marvels, I recently purchased the Vanilla Fudge MoFi. The original recording must not have been very good, OR they were going for a total grunge sound and succeeded. When it gets loud it sounds like it's coming out of speakers in the rear window of a 70's automobile that have a sweater laying over them. Oddly enough, it still sounds good and really fits the music.

Also, the Blackstar RTI should NOT say "Made in the EU" on the back - the "Made in the EU" pressings are MPO (for the EU market) and the Celebrate pressings.

The US released MPO pressings don't have the "Made in the EU". At least the initial pressings didn't. This title was quickly repressed soon after its initial release, and some of those may have added this wording to what was released in the US.

I do know that some EU repressings changed the copyright date to © 2016 - which is an easy way to tell if it was a later repress.

Just ordered the Tom Waits One From the Heart MoFi. Was cheaper from Music Direct to my An Post AddressPal service, and then paying them €15.99 to ship it, than from a European seller 😱

PS I sold a Bowie single on cogs for the same price so this is a freebie outside my slow down lol!
Would be worried about Vat and Duties via addresspal. At least ordering direct to Dublin via Mofi usually means the UPS or DHL deliver then chase the duties via credit control process after delivery (which is inconsistent ie sometimes they do/sometimes they don’t)

add a few analogue productions beach boys to get free shipping… … also stacked discounts eg buy 5 get 5% off

Some of their audiophile vinyl is priced below regular European pricing…. Worth a root around

Their site is weird! I couldn’t find it on there! I did search. That will be roughly what I paid to MD and AP combined.

What I’ve found is that historically yes address pal have charged vat if the price is declared. But I haven’t had a single charge from an An Post, be it a handover from a foreign carrier or address pal, since covid. I think they’re really struggling with the volume of parcels that they’re getting.

Plus 21% VAT on what I paid is roughly €9 which brings the total to around €55 which is what the cheapest European vendor I could find was selling for before postage.

Do you find the couriers inconsistent? Usually I find them the most insistent because they’re just so happy to claim their obscene €20ish “admin fee”. The only time I bought direct from Music Direct they used the bastards at FedEx who are the most consistently “on it” when charging and have the highest of those “admin fees”.

That's how I understood it. Sorry if it wasn't clear. What I was trying to say is if it says "Made in the EU", it's not RTI. If it doesn't, it can be RTI or MPO (but not Celebrate).
