February 2021 Challenge (& Raffle)

Day 27 - Sommerferie

This is definitely something I’ve played while grilling outside on a warm summer evening. Today was actually the warmest day here since thanksgiving (maybe 50F tops), so a surprisingly appropriate topic.

February is renowned for being dark and cold, so it’s important to dream. Play the sunniest album you have

I played this earlier today; the sun was shining and I made quiche and had some Bailey's in my coffee. A good Start to a beautiful February Saturday.

Hazy summer vibes abound.

Sun 28 – Shortest month
Play your shortest album (in terms of number of songs, total playing time, length of one song, whatever).

This is a 2LP set consisting of one song that clocks in at 64 minutes and 11 seconds but it has a locked groove on side 4 so this is actually a one song record that plays until the end of time.

You can have it both ways.

It's been fun @Poly-Rythmo

Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music

Day 28: Shortest month

I went with the 9 track / 14+ minute Misfits ‎– Earth A.D. / Wolfs Blood last time for this day's theme...I'll go with the next shortest I have.

This one is just short of 17 minutes.

Minor Threat ‎– Minor Threat
Dischord Records ‎– Dischord 12, 1984

German pressing - "Zahl nicht mehr als DM 12" (Pay no more than 12 Deutschmarks)

Chris Frantz Interview:

"CBGB quickly became Talking Heads’ home venue. You describe approaching Hilly Kristal to secure your first gig there. He allowed you to audition by opening for The Ramones on a Thursday at a time when the club only offered live music a couple of days a week. What do you think people might fail to understand about the venue during this era?

People fail to recognize how much of a dive it really was— in the early days at least—and how bad of a location it was in. For example, you couldn’t get record company people to come down and see you there. I couldn’t even get some of my friends from the Upper East Side to come down and see us there. It was too rough of a neighborhood.

I remember when we would play with The Ramones there, not that many people would show up. In the early days, there were maybe 30 people there for both bands combined. And I’d say to Dee Dee Ramone: “How come more of your friends don’t come down to see you?” And he said, “It’s too long of a subway ride. They don’t want to come to a dump like this.” It was a very challenging location to do business."

Thanks for hosting @Poly-Rythmo ! It was really fun!

Day 28 - short

The Ramones - Rocket to Russia

I'm with @gafacaode on this one - this was the first punk album I got, and still might be my favourite. So much energy, and joy, and humour.

Thanks everybody for playing along, and all the birthday wishes. I had a great music-filled day, and spring seems to arrived in Norway so the grey, cold start of the month has given way to something far more pleasant. I'll do a draw tomorrow to see who gets a mystery parcel, and am looking forward to @LeeVing 's challenge from tomorrow.

Each track is power pop goodness that certainly doesn’t overstay its welcome, with the majority of the songs just a little over the one minute mark.

Carly Rae Jepsen - E•MO•TION: Side B

Pretty upbeat and sunny pop music. Even the 'darker' songs like "Cry" and "Roses" are bright and cheery bops. Carly's music is very reminiscent and emblematic of sunshine; a joy to dance to!

Otoboke Beaver (おとぼけビーバー) - Itekoma Hits (いてこまヒッツ)

Clocking in at just 26:35, this Japanese hardcore punk girl quartet packs a wallop across 14 tracks. Infectious energy kept through the entire runtime. Also my #7 of '19.

Thank you @Poly-Rythmo for hosting us for this month! Glad I was able to get it all spun on time.

Khruangbin & Leon Bridges - Texas Sun

This was a candidate to be played yesterday but it fit here as well as this is the shortest 12" I own. Such a great collection of songs, but I wish it were a full album!
