Mods & Plods

I've just dipped my toes into a cheap modification to the Rega P3 by purchasing an Achromat.
It's done what they said it would. Tighter bass, better mid and high end separation.
It got me wondering what are other Mods that you've all tried and what are the Plods. The ones that were a bust. Any make, any table.
I had a Rega P3 hottrodded to the hilt:

TTPSU
Groovetracer Subplatter
Groovetracer Delryn Platter
Audiomods 5 Arm
SRM Tech Rega Silent Base
Rega White Belt

I documented it on the old forum. It was a fun project and I learned a lot. It sounded way better than a stock P3. The Silent Base was cool- it relocates the motor to a new base that sits below the stock plinth. Inexpensive too. But I ultimately learned that if one wants something different, just get something different. Don’t spend a ton of money trying to turn a turntable into a different turntable.

The Pioneer PLX-1000 responds very nicely to the KAB TD-1200 tone arm damper. Better tracking and tighter bass. Also fits the Technics SL-1200 and they make them for the new models as well. Worthwhile at $150.

Same as most on an RP3. Groovetracer sub, groovetracer platter, ttpsu, Mitchel arm weight.

On the Technics all I've done is swap the stock mat for a Oyaide BR-12, add Isonoe feet (and the glass bases to go under) and add a cheapo AT weight. At somepoint I'm going to start experimenting with headshells but that'll probably be closer to cart update time (I quite fancy the Yamamoto HS-4 if one turns up at the right price)

I added this to my SL-1200 and agree it made a worthwhile difference. That setup with the Grado on it is a bass fiend
