Pre-Order Thread

For anyone who wants to chase down a "best pressing"

Hard to say what will come up now, but because of how many similar issues of the stones albums there were in the 70s, it was pretty easy for me to find a good deal eBay a few years ago. It is trickier for some people to tell if it is a first pressing or not.

Look at the bottom text on the ATCO label. Bold text 1841 B'way is supposed to be the best. If the address is 75 Rockefeller, it is after '74. Non-bold 1841 Broadway spelled out is in between. Got mine for $20 or under when really flashy listings of the 75 Rockefeller were selling for much more. Probably a little pricier now.

I did a quick search and saw a good one that even stated first pressing that sold a couple weeks ago for $32, but plenty of 75 Rockefellers that sold for more. 🤷‍♂️

If you don't care, just don't mind me. :p
I have no desire to snag a whole cube's worth of Rolling Stones records, but I love the precision with which certain presses are regarded for sounds/value. Things like this make me love this hobby.

For those that live in Nashville, this is a cool promotion they are doing for the new Margo price record.

Ha! Nice marketing, that’s a great idea

That is disappointing to hear. I just ordered a copy in hopes of an upgrade over my 2010 reissue. I held off on the 2015 half-speed because I heard it wasn’t worth the upgrade I guess it was wishful thinking to assume this one would be better. I probably just need to bite the bullet and try to find a VG+ copy of the OG. Bummer.
Maybe it was just my copy...but I think @Crabbers had a similar issue? I was hoping it would be good too...I have a few other half-speed masters (The Specials and one or two others) and they sounded great to me.

Yeah, I have a phenomenal Another Green World Abbey Road Half speed and it sounds amazing (though it is also 45 rpm).

Gotta say the only good stones half speed master is the exile one from a few years ago that comes with the fauxbi and certificate thingy. That’s really good, if a bit too hot. The OG Goats Head Soup that I got for not much money earlier in the year blows all the new ones I have out of the water.
I would agree on the Exile half speed pressing, it sounds really nice. And while the Goat Head deluxe is tempting, I think I'll also follow your lead and work on picking up an OG somewhere along the line, it's the last of the Stones LPs I'm looking for.

It’s doable, mine was only £16 and it sounds great bar a couple of light pops, but that has to he expected on an album from the early 70s! It’s a really good master and press. After my splurge last month I only need to get Blue & Lonesome and I would like to pick up the two hot rocks too at some point!

Was hoping they would add Goats Head to Qobuz when they put all those 24bit digital albums up, but no luck. I think OG pressings of it aren't too expensive. I grabbed a 1973 pressing for pretty cheap not too long ago.

How fast did the yellow version of Gleam 3 sell out? Guessing immediately? Has anyone tried a vmp link trick for one?
I ordered the yellow from Bandcamp as it was $5 cheaper than it was on the Avett's site. is VMP doing a variant of Gleam 3?

I haven't seen anything about a VMP pressing but they might have fixed the photo link trick...
ok, I guess I'm confused by @bdm105's posts as they seem to suggest that it might be happening... unless it's more checking if VMP is doing it as wishful thinking for missing the yellow variant?

It was around for a couple of hours. At least on bandcamp. Had a hard time checking out with B&N but finally got through.

they just asked if VMP was doing one. there has been nothing about it as far as I have seen. people said the B&N variant was out of stock but if you searched for it on their site it was still available.

I wasn't even fully aware that the pre-order was dropping today, I luckily stumbled into this thread today, as I don't check it daily, and saw @Twentytwo's post about the different pre-orders

Same for me. I’ve been doing a good job staying away from this thread but I’ve been checking in daily for the last month or so.

I missed the bandcamp one. B&N is still available but I might hold off...been buying too many records lately!
