Need some sad boy music for a mellow night like this. Urban Outfitters exclusive, limited to 2000 (I think). One of my more valuable records, for some reason. Great, sad, mellow music.
So easy on the ears. Clear vinyl may be the perfect choice. Reminds me of a more laidback “Yazoo”. Good sound and very little surface noise on my copy. Nice.
Time for Peace is Now Comp (VMP Edition, #78/300). Really enjoying this collection at first listen. Great harmonies & musicianship - I love comps like this that dig deep to give songs a chance to be heard again. Gonna need to spend some time digging into it.
McCoy Tyner – The Real McCoy (Blue Note, Jazz At 33⅓ rpm 2016 pressing)
Finally got around to listening to this. I believe it was @Mr Moore who first brought the series to my attention (always looking for me to spend money that guy!) and its just mind-bogglingly good for the £10 price it goes for. I picked up 2 that I knew I wouldn't be getting the first presses of any time soon (so McCoy and Lee Morgan - Indeed!) and I will certainly be thinking about picking up some more if they are all of this quality.
Gigi Gryce Quintet – Saying Somethin'! (New Jazz, 1960 first Mono Pressing, Deep Groove)
This has to be my 'discovery' of the year. I was aware of Gigi Gryce (he's on Lee Morgan - Vol 3 & Clifford Brown - Memorial Album) but this is the first time I have heard him as the lead. It's just a breathtaking hard bop session, with all sidemen killing it with some hard and fast solos. Give this album a listen and I bet you won't be disappointed!
