  • Dammit, 2020. The U Street Music Hall in Washington, DC is closing. I saw Poppy there just a few months ago before COVID hit.
Wow. Metallica's S&M2, a live album consisting entirely of decades-old tracks, beats Katy Perry's new studio album Smile for the top debut on this week's Billboard 200. I like both artists, but it's crazy that Smile underperformed this hard. Taylor Swift getting another week at #1 is awesome though.
If you haven't heard the new Smashing Pumpkins tracks yet, I strongly recommend giving it a listen, along with giving the very stylistically cool video for Cyr a watch. Awesome, new-wave influenced tracks. An apocalyptic slow jam for the ages.
Some great music out tonight! New albums from Seether and PVRIS, and two new tracks from The Smashing Pumpkins!

My online class was supposed to start at 11. It's 11:30. When do I give up and leave?
The Dove Awards (think the Grammys, but Christian) announced their 2020 nominees today. Among them, in the Best Gospel Rap Album category, is Kanye West's Jesus Is King. Crazy times we live in. Happy to see that my three favorite Christian hard rock bands, Red, Skillet, and Disciple, all got nominations as well.

Invincible and Alien Youth were my jam as an early teen before moving to mostly less metal-ly Tooth & Nail and old Takehold Records (who I think later got bought out by T&N) stuff.

I looked them up and I'm kind of amazed they kept generally the same lineup unlike other legacy Christian acts who replace members like they were a 70s prog band.

@sahomerrocks Those were certainly some of their finer recordings. For me, they peaked with Collide, kept things interesting with Comatose, and then went downhill from there. They have a bunch of solid recent songs, but a bunch of boring and pointless ones too.

How many noms did Faith +1 get? (I'm teasing)
The standard presses of Poppy's first two albums go for over $100 now... damn, glad I got those early lol

@Sanders I took the dive. Noticing it says get it by "Thursday 10/1"... so it won't ship for two months? I'm not expecting much here, red flags are popping up but I'll be very happy if it this actually goes through. Although that listing also doesn't specify a color...

@gaporter The red press was UO exclusive, so it should be the white/black marble. It definitely looks suspicious, but I hope you get it!

The black/white marble looks really good Gap! And I got it whilst they sold it on her website for half price - only USD$13! I did have to pay USD$13 for shipping, so it evened out! ☺️

At least you have the white/black swirl variant for I Disagree! 🔥🔥🔥

Fingers crossed you get the Am I A Girl?! 🤞

I waited for The Growiers' response to the recent sexual misconduct allegations made against them. They just released a statement, and it's uhhh... Very half-assed. Very vague. Almost as if they hardly cared to address it. Yeah, there goes another band in my rotation.

Sorry, but that band always gave off HUGE dbag vibe to me. Also hate how they snaked the "Beach Goth" term from Wavves for their Burger Records endorsed music festival.
Uprise Fest, the Christian music festival I go to every September, finally cancelled for this year. Glad they came to the right decision, and can't wait to go next year!

I've limited my vinyl buying to only essentials this year for the most part. I've bought less than 20 new LPs this year. Honestly, it's pretty freeing. Definitely a better way to collect. There's a certain relief in not having daily/weekly LP arrivals in the mail.

Nice! What metric are you using to determine what is essential?

@scotthilk Not VMP's metric, that's for sure. That said, releases that I preview on streaming and know I would listen to often, or new releases from bands that are in the sorta "core" group of artists I listen to. I try not to buy things for novelty or FOMO anymore, and I'm doing a decent job at that.

As much as I joke about how much music I buy (and I do, no regrets) it is sort of nice to have an idea or philosophy to your collection. I don’t think that necessarily means more or less, I think it’s more about being mindful of why you’re adding it, whatever the quantity is. Now excuse me, I have mailers to open.
