Texas

Stay safe! Help those you can, check in on your fragile friends/family. The community has been coming together to help folks here in SA. Hope it’s happening in your areas as well.

Also please please PLEASE don't use more power than you need if you do have it, it's literally keeping people from getting theirs turned back on. We've got a real case study in the tragedy of the commons going on this week. People are getting power back, going ham with it, then keeping there from being enough capacity for others to get service back...and then people lose power, turn their phones into a mobile hotspot so they can watch Netflix or get internet on their laptop, and strain cell towers to the point where others can't even send a text message or make a call. This whole thing is such a shitshow.

🎉 We had power through the night last night for the first time this week! Fingers crossed it stays on. Hopefully everyone else in Texas has power and water soon if they don't already.

Same here. I'm so grateful, and hopeful that more people get relief today as things continue to thaw out.

Got partial power back in the middle of the night...my fridge is only half functioning, but at least I've got heat and internet back! They turned on power to the neighborhood yesterday evening, but when that happened the three big apartment complexes in the area all immediately blew their transformers from the surge, so we had to wait for CenterPoint to come out and look at it.

Still no water, but the City of Houston is supposedly expecting to turn that back on later today. Not sure how long after that I'll get water, though, because I'm guessing my building won't be able to turn it back on for us until the power is at least fully functioning, to keep from blowing another transformer. Hopefully we're almost at the end of this mess!

Did everyone get their utilities back? We still have a few spots around town without water.
We're back up and running, and our groceries stores our fully stocked. I think several areas around DFW are still on boil water notices. I know some friends down in Austin were still without water or electricity as of Friday. Hopefully that's changed since.

We were very fortunate to not lose power. We lost water on Tuesday but got it back on Friday. Houston lifted the boil notice yesterday.

What a stressful week that was. I feel like I have no right to complain though since I didn’t lose electricity at all. A lot of folks were way worse off.

Yes, I really feel for those who lost access to both. Even when we didn't have power, we kept water, and more importantly hot water, the whole time. I feel very lucky.

Anyone in the Houston area wanna be my concert buddy for Modest Mouse on Friday? I have an extra ticket, and my go-to folks are all gonna be at ACL. I'm definitely not above going to see them alone, but would rather the extra ticket not go to waste if I can help it!

EDIT: Nevermind, I found a taker. Sorry for dangling a carrot like that! But I am looking for people to take my extra show tickets a LOT, so I'm sure there will be other opportunities :)

Anyone want tickets to see CHVRCHES next week in Houston? I booked myself for 3 shows on 3 consecutive days, and this one being the middle show, I think I'm gonna skip it. I have two tickets if anyone wants them, we'd just need to find a way for me to hand them off to you since they're will call tickets.

Hi there, Texas folks. Just wanna put out there that I'll be moving from Vegas to San Antonio mid-Jan 2024. I am looking forward to it. Have spent a little time in San Antonio and have always had a good impression of the city. I've been in Vegas the last 8 years or so (and spent about 11 years cumulatively here) and, while I really love Vegas as a city to live in, I'm looking forward to the change.

Badass. Happy to have you! Every Mexican place is great and you’re just in time for Wemby Mania. This town is great when everyone is hyped for the spurs.
