Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Noob question

So I got my Elac Debut 2.0's today, as well as new speaker cable from Blue Jeans (I opted for banana plugs for ease of use). But I'm having a hard time with the connection on the Elac's. They dont seem to just plug in, and im not sure if I need to unscrew these nut looking things because they're on there very tight. Not even sure if they do unscrew

If an Elac user could help me, it would be appreciated.

Edit: Okay with a wrench I got the "caps" off, but I still can't connect by banana plugs. Am I an idiot and do these not accept banana plugs? It seemed online that they did

Anyone have any experience/opinions on Vincent Audio?

If anyone remembers, I was asking about Rogue as a hybrid integrated the other week as compared to going for all valve w/ Prima Luna (@HiFi Guy thanks for the idea to look at the EVO 300 instead of the 400, if that's all I may find I need and it has all the same main features save less power but also less overhead).

However, I was checking out the Vincent Audio SV-237MK Hybrid, which I've seen before but hadn't super paid attention to. It seems to have some good professional reviews (as does its predecessor the SV-236).

I appreciate that it doesn't have a phonostage. It also has coaxial/optical digital inputs which I don't need for my current or projected set up (I'll run everything into the analog inputs and use offboard DACs), but I don't hate that it's there for who knows what will come.

I'm ambivalent to the EQ, but that may be because it has been a while since I've had a stereo that had it; but it is defeatable and w/ a Loudness button.

Haven't seen too much about the headphone amp, but that's not a major thing for me as I hardly use cans. Also doesn't have a dedicated sub-in like the PL; but it has a pre out so that works.

It's also ~$1200 less than the EVO300 and $2200 less than the 400 (but, honestly, that's the least determining factor).

As well, if anyone has any knowledge of the SV-700 (about the same size as the SV-237MK) but adds some extra Class A power, loses the EQ and Loudness button, loses headphone input, adds 1x XLR input, about the same cost as the EVO 400

EDIT: I see I asked a very similar (ok, the same) question in Aug 2020. So I may get crickets again. But let's see!

If I remember correctly, unscrew them a bit, push in the banana plugs, and then tighten them back up. It should be in your manual.

Edit: I don't see it in the manual, lol.

Ok I see now, they plug in through the side of the plug and not through the top. This actually helped, thanks

You never realize gaps in your knowledge until you run into them, do you.

no, I think they go in the top...I'll run downstairs.

edit: forgot that I used bare wire on them downstairs. If it fits, you’re good! Glad my terrible instructions helped!

Ok so now I discover you CAN plug them straight through but untightening and then retightening the scew on the banana plugs. Man I feel like a noob today. Going to assume this is the correct way

Yeah, I think that's a better connection through the top. I'm no expert but the other way looks like it could short if they somehow touch because the electric part is showing. Good job figuring it out...I figured for sure it would be in the manual. Seems like a good thing to add there.

Yeah I can find nothing about speaker wire connections in the manual. Definitely should be in there.
I went through the same thing you did a few weeks back when I changed my cables. I got bananas thinking it would be easier to plug in but no dice. It took me a bit of experimenting before I got everything hooked up in a way that worked for me.

One last question for the experts....do I plug in with nut in or nut out? (Both shown)

Both seem fairly secure but I'd like to do it the "correct" way if there is one.

Thanks y'all, you guys have been so helpful! I just got tracking confirmation, we in business baby.
It's important that you get this right. Each speaker cable will be comprised of two 'strands,' a positive and negative. The left 'out' connections on your amp (marked pos and neg and usually red and black, respectively) will take one end of one speaker cable; the other end of that same cable will connect to the left speaker. In turn, the right 'out' connections on your amp will take one end of the other speaker cable; the other end of that same cable will connect to the right speaker.

It's critical that the 'strand' within the cable that you attach to the pos 'out' connector on the amp be attached to the pos connector on the corresponding speaker; same for the 'strand' that you attach to the neg 'out' connector on the amp--it should be connected to the neg connector on the corresponding speaker. Rinse and repeat for the second speaker. Also, be sure that the two strands of cable at the speaker end never touch each other while connected to the speaker. This is a risk that shouldn't be relevant with banana plugs or the like, but could be a problem with bare wire connections.
