thought you were joking but that's an obnoxious way to title your albums

Stankonia last?? Hot take 🔥
For extra shits and giggles I just dropped it in the VMP hip hop discussion! :ROFLMAO:

There are some amazing songs on Stankonia but I never could get into it when it dropped, nor when everybody was so excited about VMP releasing it. Believe me, I've tried. Even though it's album #4, to me it feels like their sophomore slump.

...then they got back to doing super interesting stuff doing a double solo album and Idlewild. I think Idlewild is way better than most people give it credit for. Doesn't get nearly enough love!

I can appreciate this take. Stankonia, although it’s considered as the album that brought Outkast into the mainstream discussion, has some of their least accessible material. The beats felt futuristic and Andre turned the weirdness up extra. Even Big Boi adopted an unorthodox flow on some tracks.

It was the first album I got by them when I was like 12 and I loved Ms Jackson, BOB, So Fresh So Clean, but the remaining tracks never quite stuck with me. I find myself grabbing ATLiens or Aquemini first before this one. I still think it’s a classic, but can see why others may not gel with it as much.

I really felt like I was ride or die OutKast until Stankonia dropped. I still feel like I'm ride or die OutKast even though I don't much like the album. I was working at an HMV back when Aquemini and Stankonia each dropped and I thoroughly remember all of us losing our goddamn mines at Aquemini - even the non-hip hop heads, but when Stankonia came out myself and the buyer for the hip hop section just couldn't get into the album and we really truly wanted to. It feels to me like the closest thing they put out to an industry album rather than an OutKast album. If anything the weirdness and unorthodox flows should've made me dig the album even more, not less.

Ultimately, I'm glad it brought more fans to the OutKast table and I'm glad that people love it. I just happen to think it's overrated as far as their catalogue is concerned. Even as their worst album it's still better than so much that's out there. It just doesn't do much for me as an album.
