Just finished listening to this, so you'll be hearing my thoughts first. ;)

1) I can't help but feel how often the SFX and environmental samples (in the tracks that used them) distracted from my potential enjoyment of these tracks. Yes, environmental sounds are a useful device to compliment black metal to great effect, but they often felt so out of place and somewhat awkward here. Was not impressed with how that was executed.

2) The riffage is predominantly uninteresting. At times, I got the impression that it sounded like a hard rock record instead of a black metal record, as they were intending on. For me, the biggest offender was track 5, "Michikiniqua's Triumph," as it felt like I was watching dudes get pulverized in a WWE arena standing in a drunken crowd.

3) Best track was the closing cut.

I appreciate you taking the time to listen and share your thoughts. I'll probably give this another go next week and keep them (and any others gathered in the meanwhile) in mind. As far as it working for me, in terms of digestibility compared to Portal it certainly does but I still have little other context to go on so I do look forward to broadening my riffage palette. At the very least this will make a good marker post along the journey as I keep exploring.

If you've any recommendations in direction from this point I'd certainty be appreciative and happy to slot 'em into the queue.

Just looking at this list again to download something for a drive and realized Panopticon is the band I was trying to remember that an old coworker loved, so I'm gonna start with that one.
