Texas

Checking in from north of Austin, trying to purple up Williamson Country some. Lived outside of Texas for a few decades, finally talked my wife to leave the dreary Pacific NW about three years ago and found a place fairly central to all my family here.

can we talk here about our internet bills. spectrum is going to give me a heart attack

edit: you know, bc a new guy is here so now we can get the party this is not sarcasm
road work in my SA neighborhood took out ATT cables so I just didn't have internet at my house for 2 weeks. back up and running, and all my related troubles were worth... $20. they just started redoing a parallel road and I'm on edge lololol

I am hoping Google Fiber gets up and running soon over here on the NW side. We pretty much have to use Spectrum which is just a kick in the teeth.

I haven't had Spectrum in almost a year now, but we're currently using AT&T for internet and cable. It's expensive, and the cable bill is a big part of that, but the internet speeds are very fast here and work well. I'd have to look into what our internet portion cost, but I'd pay a small premium to keep this internet if we drop cable. It's been pretty consistent.

I've been paying $105 for gigabit speeds in AZ for the past...forever. Today I had the lovely choice between Spectrum (gag me with a spoon) and At&T DSL. With max speeds of, you guessed it, 200mbps. I am le disappoint.

okay, I got an idea- might be crazy but we are all obviously in to analogue here.

how 'bout we buy a shitload of string, recycle some cans, and set up an old school telephone system between our houses?
then you can just yell at me the old fashioned way
Hahahaha. Gonna be a hell of a string, but count me in.

I have always wanted to learn how to send messages by carrier pigeon. So I guess I can start practicing that as well

Hope my fellow Texans are doing alright in this freeze. We’ve been lucky to have power throughout this, but I know millions haven’t been so lucky...

Just got power back, was out 2 am Monday
Stay safe! Help those you can, check in on your fragile friends/family. The community has been coming together to help folks here in SA. Hope it’s happening in your areas as well.
